January 13th, 2017 - Strand Wraps up Rain-Shortened WWS with Four Top 10's and One Victory
1On Wednesday night Dustin Strand returned to action at Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) for round three of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. After laying down the 4th fastest qualifying time in his group, Strand made impressive move on the very first circuit of his heat that rocketed him from 4th to 1st in one lap. Holding off the field for the remaining seven laps, Dustin scored a heat race win putting him 3rd on the starting rundown for the feature. In the Modified division, Strand found victory lane for the second time of the night locking his spot into the $2,000-to-win A-Main. After getting sent to the tail for spinning out while running in second in the Modified A-Main, Dustin battled back from the tail to an 11th place outing. 1After having a scheduled off day on Thursday, Dustin Strand was back behind the wheel in two separate divisions on Friday evening. Coming in 4th fastest in time trials in his Super Late Model, Strand jumped up one spot in his heat registering a 3rd place spot. In the Modified division, Dustin notched a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Chad Olsen locking his spot into the $2,000-to-win A-Main. Hanging on to a Top 5 finish in the 25-lap feature, Strand ran high as 2nd at one point in the feature but fell back to a 5th place finish when the checkers flew, trailing Ricky Thornton Jr., R.C. Whitwell, Shane Sabraski, and Brad Dierks across the finish line. Rolling off 9th for the $5,000-to-win Late Model main event, Dustin dropped back to a 14th place outing in the 30-lapper. January 8th, 2017 - Dustin Strand Wins in Modified in 2nd Night of WWS
1 Dustin Strand opened the 2017 racing season on Saturday by traveling to Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) for the 11th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts. Powering both his Super Late Model and Open Wheel Modified in Saturday’s opener, Dustin positioned himself with the pole-starting spot for his Late Model heat after timing in fastest in his qualifying group. Charging to an 8-lap heat race victory, Strand earned the 6th-starting spot for the $5,000-to-win feature. In the Modified division, Dustin wheeled is way to a early heat race win earning him a solid starting spot for the main event. Looking to break into the Top 5 in the Late Model A-Main, Strand battled for a Top 5 position the whole race until slipping back to a 10th place outing when the checkers flew. Rolling off 9th for the Modified feature, Dustin Strand wheeled his way into a podium spot in the early stages of the main event and had his eyes on race-leader Ricky Thornton Jr. in the final laps. Making his bid for the leader on the final circuit, Strand got sideways in turns three and four sending him to the tail.

1On Sunday evening Dustin powered his way to another heat race win in the Modified division from the 4th-starting position. Earning the 2nd-starting position for the $2,000-to-win A-Main, Strand jumped into the lead on the drop of the green flag and never looked bad. Leading all 25-laps, Dustin Strand picked up his first victory of the 2017 campaign outdueling David McDonald, Matt Leer, Matt Gilbertson, and Shane Sabraski. Following the 2nd quickest time in his Super Late Model qualifying group, Dustin locked his spot into the A-Main with a runner-up finish behind Chris Simpson in his heat. Starting in 10th for the $5,000-to-win show, Dustin suffered a flat right-rear on the very first lap bringing a disappointing end to his night in the Late Model division.
