January 14, 2018 - Dustin Strand Wins Wild West Shootout Finale
1Dustin Strand returned to action on Wednesday night at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) competing in only the USRA Modified division for the third round of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. Passing four cars in his heat race, Strand landed a 5th place finish positioning him 13th on the starting grid for the $1,000-to-win A-Main. Working his way into the Top 5 early in the 25-lapper, Dustin suffered a left-rear flat that sent him tail. Wheeling his way back into Top 10 on the highside, Strand was making a move for the 5th spot until a blown motor ended his night immediately.

After a scheduled off day on Thursday, Dustin was one of 50 USRA Modifieds signed in on Friday for another $1,000 top prize. Starting the night off with a heat race victory, Strand locked his spot into the main event. Falling short of a Top 10 finish, Dustin slipped back to a 19th place outing in the 25-lap affair.

On Saturday night for the fifth round of the six-race tour, Dustin logged a 9th place finish in his heat sending him into the B-Main. Slated to start near the tail of his consolation event, Strand scratched from his B-Main to prepare for the final night.

1Bringing the 12th annual Wild West Shootout to a close on Sunday, Dustin locked into the 4th-starting spot for the finale after charging to an 8-lap heat race victory. Streaking to his first win of the season, Dustin Strand outran the 23-car field to capture the $2,000 payday. Alex Stanford, Stormy Scott, Shane Sabraski, and Lucas Schott completing the Top 5 finishers in the 25-lapper.

January 7, 2018 - Dustin Strand Begins 2018 Season at Wild West Shootout
1Kicking off the 2018 season pulling double duty, Dustin Strand headed to FK ROD Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) on Saturday night competing in the Open Wheel Modified and B-Modified division for the 12th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. Passing three cars in his Open Wheel Modified heat, Strand logged a 5th place finish transferring him into the B-Main. Streaking to a 12-lap consolation victory, Dustin locked his spot into the opening night feature. Running into trouble early, Strand got tangled up in the fence ending his night early.

In the B-Mod ranks, Strand improved six positions in his heat race landing a 3rd place finish. Rolling off on the front row of the feature, Dustin suffered mechanical issues with his motor after it shut off on the opening lap. Unable to get it restarted, Strand headed pitside to prepare for Sunday.

1Returning on Sunday evening, Dustin started the night off with a heat race victory in the A-Mod sending him into the redraw. After battling for a Top 5 finish throughout the feature, Strand slipped back late in the closing laps to place 9th. (Cheryl Sluka photo)

After passing seven cars in his heat race in the B-Mod, Strand suffered more electrical issues with his motor ending his night immediately.
