East Grand Forks, Minn. (Oct. 1, 2024) - Dustin Strand continued the Fall Special season last week with his Silver 1000 debut at Proctor Speedway in Proctor, MN and made the five-hour trip to Minnesota's North Shore pay dividends as he scored his 40th top five in the 2024 campaign.
Strand finished second after starting third in his heat race to start the night in Proctor and drew the sixth starting spot for the 52nd annual Silver 1000 40-lap main event. Strand ripped around the top of the 3/8th mile red clay oval, moving into the top five past veteran Lance Matthees on the first lap. The pair continued to race door-to-door on lap two before Strand moved to the inside of Jamie Lautigar to take the fourth spot using the inside line in turns one and two on lap four. Strand continued to hold the fourth spot following a pair of lap six cautions, including a turn two pile up that briefly brought the race to a stop. With the wreck cleaned up, Strand continued to run in the fourth spot during a nearly ten lap green-flag stint before the third and final caution on lap 15. Strand went door-to-door with Ashley Anderson when the race resumed and tried to continue to hold the fourth spot. The pair caught up to Jeff Provinzino and made it a three-car battle for the final spot on the podium at the midway point. Strand remained inside the top five for the entire 40-lap race, coming home with a fifth place finish following the final 25-lap green-flag stint that ended the event. Strand’s most recent top five was his 40th of the 2024 season in the Late Model and Modified combined. Strand has only finished outside the top five once since July 19th when he was a DNF on the opening night of the Seitz Memorial in the Modified. That’s a 26-1 stretch of top fives in his last 27 races, which includes 15 feature wins. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! Walhalla Building Center Inc. East Grand Forks, Minn. (Sept. 24, 2024) - Dustin Strand's 50th race of the 2024 season produced another solid result last Saturday night as the former Jamestown Speedway Stock Car Stampede Champion finished as the runner-up in the 53rd running of one of the longest running 'Crown Jewels' in the Upper Midwest.
Strand's quest for another Stampede Championship began Friday night in his heat race. A tough draw gave him the seventh starting spot in his heat race. Strand, however, passed five cars in that race to finish second and earn a spot in the dash where he also finished second. Starting third in the 30-lap feature on Saturday night, Strand took second at the drop of the green from Brody Troftgruben but entered into a battle to keep the runner-up spot from Mike Greseth shortly thereafter. The men that have won the last four NLRA series titles, swapped second and third for the first time on the eighth lap but it was Strand that took second back for good five laps later. Following the final caution for a pileup at the bottom of turn four with ten laps remaining, Strand kept pace with race-long leader Ryan Mikkelson in the first couple laps once the race resumed. Strand held the second spot in the closing laps to come home as the Stampede runner-up, his 30th top five in 38 Late Model starts in 2024. As the season as a whole winds down in our area, Strand's incredible 2024 has now hit the 50-race mark. In those 50 races between both the Late Model and the Modified, Strand has 21 wins, 39 top fives, and 41 top tens which includes his first six races that started his season at Central Arizona Raceway in January. Strand is Seitz Runner-up After Winning Fifth NLRA Series Championship
9/11/2024
East Grand Forks, Minn. (Sept. 11, 2024) - Dustin Strand capped off a successful season at River Cities Speedway last weekend by winning the Howie Schill Memorial on Thursday night which clinched his fifth NLRA series championship. Strand went on to complete the weekend of the 18th annual John Seitz Memorial as the runner-up, pulling even on multiple occasions late in the 92-lap race.
Strand entered Thursday night at River Cities for the relocated Howie Schill Memorial ahead of Howie's son Cole by 54 points in the season-long NLRA points chase. After winning his heat race Strand started fourth in the 27-car feature field which was whittled down from the record breaking 60 entries to start the night.
Strand moved up to third and restarted in that spot following a lap two caution. Strand took the runner-up spot in the laps following the caution and remained within striking distance of race long leader Mike Greseth through the midway point of the 30-lapper.
A second caution with 11 to go cleared the way for the lead duo though Strand continued to stalk Greseth as the closing laps drew near. Coming to the two to go signal, Strand snuck underneath Greseth and took the lead at the flag stand. Strand led the final three circuits to score his ninth River Cities Late Model win of the season, 18th overall, and his fifth NLRA series championship.
Strand entered Friday night with a front row starting spot in his 15-lap qualifying heat race. With passing points being the way to get locked into the big show on Saturday night, Strand basically needed to win the heat to lock himself into the 92-lap finale.
Strand won his heat and made the top eight in points which gave him a redraw spot for the 20-lap 'Go Hard or Go Home' pole dash. Strand drew the six pill and passed two cars to earn a starting spot in the outside of the second row for Saturday night's main event.
Strand also finished as the runner-up in that night's Big Al Delaine Memorial Modified main event. Strand charged from seventh to second in that feature.
Strand remained in the fourth spot through the lap 32 fuel stop and remained inside the top five throughout the final 60 laps of the race.
Strand grabbed a podium spot as the final third of the race began after a three-car battle with Chad Becker and Aaron Turnbull in traffic. A series of cautions with a dozen or less laps left saw Strand and Turnbull swap the second spot on multiple occasions though Strand went on to take the spot for good following the final caution with seven to go.
Strand pulled even with Cole Searing a few times on the final restart but fell just short of the victory, finishing as the runner-up.
“We had a heck of a battle with Aaron [Turnbull] there for a while and all three of us were right together,” Strand said post-race. “I saw, on that last restart, Aaron had a pretty good run above Searing and thought “well that's my only prayer” and I stoked it in there and I got ahead of him a little down the straightaway, but I was just a little too free to run up there and once he found that he was gone, but that was a heck of a race.”

East Grand Forks, Minn. (Sept. 3, 2024) - Dustin Strand finished the regular season as strong as he had been throughout the summer, winning four of the five features in which he competed last weekend including securing his seventh River Cities Speedway points title. Strand capped off his track championship at the Bullring by taking three of four at Greenbush Race Park including a sweep of the Late Model features and increasing his 2024 win total to 20.
Strand's Labor Day weekend started Friday night at River Cities Speedway on Track Championship night. After winning his heat race Strand started on the pole of the final 20-lap main event of the regular season at the high-banked quarter-mile.
Strand took the lead on the initial start from fellow front row starter Brad Seng and led the opening lap. Just six laps into the race, Strand had to start working lap traffic, but still had a straightaway lead at that point. Strand split a pair of lapped cars on lap seven to put three slower cars between himself and Seng before at the completion of the seventh lap. Strand brought the race back to green and was followed by Joey Pederson as the runner-up. At the midway point, Strand was again ahead by a straightaway as he saw the back of the field get closer once again. Strand had to abandon the top on numerous occasions and was in traffic for the duration of the race, but still went on to victory, his eighth late model win at the speedway and securing the track and points championships. I tell you, I can't wait to watch my wife's video because about six to go I almost drove it off the end over here, [turn one,]” Strand said in victory lane post race. “I bet you I'm going to get chewed out for that one but [the car] was pretty awesome.” Strand won his heat in both the Modified and the Late Model Saturday night at Greenbush Race Park and started seventh in the late model main event. After the initial start was called back, Strand made his way into the top five on the opening lap. He then passed Brody Troftgruben on the next lap and passed Brad Seng before a caution on lap eight. Strand went three-wide with Shane Edginton and early leader Brandon Corbett with Strand taking the lead on at the end of lap ten. Following another caution with 11 to go, Strand continued to lead over Edginton and Corbett and worked traffic late to win his second feature of the weekend. Strand started sixth in the Modified feature and started his march through the field after a lap three caution. Strand moved past Shawn Teunis to move into the top five for the first time on lap five then continued to roll the bottom past Tim Thomas before he spun on lap six. When the race resumed, Strand then passed Aaron Holtan and Ward Imrie on consecutive laps to become the runner-up on lap nine. A side-by-side battle at the midway point culminated in Strand taking the lead on lap 14. Strand held the lead through the final pair of cautions on laps 14 and 18 and held off Ward Imrie in the closing laps to win his third modified feature of the year, sweeping his night at Greenbush. Strand started on the pole in Sunday’s main event at Greenbush and led the opening lap over Tucker Pederson and led through a lap four caution. Strand led by a straightaway as he worked lapped traffic before a lap nine caution cleared the way. Strand again started to walk away from the field and was lapping through traffic again until the final caution with four to go. Strand pulled away one final time in the final mile to sweep the weekend of Late Model features at Greenbush. Strand started fourth and lost a couple spots early in the Modified main event Sunday at Greenbush but only spent one of the 25 laps outside the top five. Strand was back up to fourth after battling with Dustin Wahl for the majority of the race and finished fifth. Up next is the 18th Annual John Seitz Memorial which kicks off with the Howie Schill Memorial Thursday night at River Cities. “That’s the one that has kind of always eluded me,” Strand said about the Seitz in victory lane last Friday night. “We’ve led that race a lot of laps and ran good in the qualifying nights and just seems like something always fails me. That race is my kryptonite, so we're gonna try like heck to get her done.” Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! Walhalla Building Center Inc. East Grand Forks, Minn. (Aug. 27, 2024) - Dustin Strand's remarkable string of podium finishes continued last weekend as he stretched the streak to 16 features including five podium finishes which was capped off with a pair of wins Sunday night at Dead Horse Creek Speedway in Morden, MB, Canada.
After finishing second in his heat race Friday night at River Cities, Strand lined up on the outside of the second row for the 25-lap main event. Strand stumbled on the cushion at the start of the race but quickly rebounded to pass Shane Edginton to take third at the end of lap two.
From there, Strand moved back to the top to pass Blake Higginbotham to take the runner-up spot. A caution on lap seven led to a pileup in turn four which saw Joey Pederson flip. Pederson was ok. Once the race resumed, Strand remained second and continued to remain within striking distance of leader Mike Greseth as the final 18 laps went green-to-checkered. The lead duo worked lapped traffic at the midway point which further cut into Greseth's advantage over Strand. In thick traffic in the final two trips around the quarter-mile, Strand pulled even with Greseth during the final trip down the backstretch but came up just short of the win, finishing second. Strand headed north for four more features on Saturday and Sunday at Dead Horse Creek Speedway in Morden, MB, Canada. Following second place finishes on Saturday in both the Modified and the Late Model, Strand took the lead on lap 17 and led the final four laps to win the Modified feature on Sunday night, his second in the class in 2024. Strand went on to lead all 25 laps in the Late Model feature, his 14th Late Model victory of the season. With three runner-up finishes and two more wins, Strand stretched his podium streak to 16 features in-a-row. The last time Strand failed to finish third or better was a DNF at Brown County on July 19th. This Friday night at River Cities will be Track Championship night. Strand will enter the night as the point leader by 47 markers over Brad Seng in hopes of his seventh points title at the speedway in the Late Model division since 2015. East Grand Forks, Minn. (August 13, 2024) - Dustin Strand's hot streak continued last week as he won his sixth and seventh Late Model features in-a-row first on Thursday night at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg then on Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Strand, who also won his first Modified feature of the season Friday at RCS, ran out of time Saturday night at Jamestown Speedway, finishing second after another charge through the field, continuing a different streak which has seen Strand finish on the podium in both cars for nearly a month straight.
Strand started his week on Thursday night at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg where he won his heat race and started fourth in the main event. Strand went three-wide coming off of turn four with Shane Holden and Scott Greer, finishing the lap in second.
Following a caution on the second lap, Strand continued to roll the bottom on the restart and passed leader Scott Greer to take the lead. Strand continued to lead following the second caution on the fourth lap and held the point through the final caution with eight to go. Strand continued on to victory by over a straightaway at the 4/10ths mile oval, his sixth Late Model win in-a-row. After winning his heat race in both the modified and late model Friday night at River Cities, Strand was slated to start eighth in both 20-lap main events. Strand searched around the quarter-mile early in the modified main event, working low and then high, but eventually moved into the top five for the first time after a multi-lap battle with Preston Carr at the end of lap seven. Strand continued his march through the field the following lap, moving around Ward Imrie as he worked the top side of the racetrack. The pair joined the top three in a five-car battle for the top spot which saw Strand move to third at the midway point. He cut in between Josh Beaulieu and Davey Mills, going three-wide for the lead and improving the second on the following circuit and then to the lead with eight laps left. Strand continued on in the closing laps to win again by nearly a straightaway en route to his first Modified victory of the season. In the Late Model feature, Strand’s march started early. He was already in the top five at the end of the opening lap and third at the end of lap two. Working the high side of the Bullring, he closed in on Joey Pederson and John Seng to battle for the lead. Strand went three-wide in the middle of Shane Edginton and John Seng on the fourth lap, finishing the lap in second again. On lap ten, Strand moved to the inside of Joey Pederson for the first time, going door-to-door with the leader as they worked lapped traffic before the first caution of the race with eight to go. Strand briefly lost second on the restart to Edginton, but after regaining the spot, began to hound Pederson again for the lead. A caution with two to go set up a green-white-checkered finish. Strand slid Pederson coming off of turn four coming to the white flag. Strand again slid Pederson in turn two and protected the bottom in turns three and four to continue on to win his seventh late model feature in-a-row. “Joey ran a heck of a good race," Strand said post-race. “We made a change right before the feature. I probably had the car a little too free. [Pederson] was probably the class of the field, and I don't think I could have got him without that yellow. It was a great race. I tell you this car's just been badass. My crew have been doing a heck of a good job and the car is just a dream to drive. It's been going awesome.” Strand finished second in his heat Saturday night at Jamestown Speedway in the late model and started sixth in the main event. Strand's first appearance inside the top five came on lap seven when he passed Don Shaw. Strand’s climb through the field continued from there at the midway point of the 25-lap race when Strand worked the bottom of the quarter mile to move past Travis Robertson to move to third. As the leaders worked traffic with seven to go, Strand improved to second while still working the bottom and clearing Kevin Robertson. With time running out, Strand started to eat into Chad Becker's advantage over the rest of the field but ran out of time after nearly cutting his lead in half and finishing second. This week, Strand joins the NLRA Late Models at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo for the two-day Howie Schill Memorial on Friday and Saturday. Strand enters the race as the most recent Late Model winner at the one-third mile oval, having won there on June 14th. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! East Grand Forks, Minn. (August 6, 2024) - It would be fair to say that Dustin Strand is one of the hottest drivers in WISSOTA country at the moment as he won his fourth and fifth consecutive Late Model features last week, scoring the win late in the race on Hall of Fame night at River Cities Speedway and then collecting the Devils Lake Speedway championship with his flag-to-flag win on Saturday.
Strand won his heat and started eighth in the 20-lap feature Friday night at River Cities. At the beginning of the second lap, Strand had to check up and nearly fell off of the top of turn two, but a caution saved him from falling back to as far as 11th.
Strand lined up seventh on the lap two restart and nearly went three wide with Ryan Kereluk and Joey Pederson as he tried to make his first appearance inside the top five. The trio went three-wide again on the third lap but this time it was Strand passing both drivers to improve to fourth before another caution on lap four. Strand briefly fell back to fifth as Joey Pederson took the fourth spot back, but Strand entered into a three-car battle with Pederson and John Seng, moving around both on the bottom of the back stretch to take third at the end of the sixth lap. Two laps later, Strand reeled in Tom Corcoran and Brody Troftgruben as he and Corcoran battled door-to-door for the lead. With nine to go, Strand used the middle of turn three to move past Corcoran for second and began hounding Troftgruben for the lead. Strand took the lead coming off of turn four with five to go as the lead duo worked a little bit of lap traffic. Strand led the final five laps to pick up his fourth consecutive victory and sixth overall at River Cities in 2024. Strand also charged from eighth to third in both the heat and feature in the Modified as he did double duty for a second straight week. Strand lined up on the pole of both the heat and the feature Saturday night in Devils Lake with Cole Schill on his outside to start both races. Strand took the lead at the start as Jason Strand moved into second. Strand pulled away by ten car lengths just three laps into the race into the 25-lap feature. Strand passed a lapped car at the midway point, allowing him to pull away from Jason Strand by a full straightaway. Strand lapped a few more cars late in the race but remained untested as he went on to his 11th late model win of the year and fifth in a row. The victory also clinched the 2024 Devils Lake points championship for Strand. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! Walhalla Building Center Inc. East Grand Forks, Minn. (July 30, 2024) - Dustin Strand is now a 35-time NLRA feature winner after three more victories last week starting with Thursday’s win at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg. Strand also won Friday night in dramatic fashion at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks before completing the sweep Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway.
Strand started sixth Thursday night at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg where he started the 25-lapper cutting between Scott Greer and Kevin Sexton on the opening lap to improve to fourth.
Strand began to reel in Jason Strand on the third lap, pulling to his inside and taking the spot going into turn three to move up the third. Strand was beginning to reel in Cole Schill for the second spot as the leaders worked light lapped traffic before a caution with 10 to go. Following a pile up on the restart which started in the row behind Strand, he lined up to the inside of Cole Schill as Schill chose the outside. Strand used the bottom, however, in turns one and two and took the second spot coming off of turn two. From there Strand began to track down race-long leader Shane Edginton, pulling to the inside of Edginton for the first time with five to go. The two went door-to-door through turns three and four with Strand leading at the completion of the lap. Strand led the final five circuits to pick up his first victory of the weekend. Strand started sixth again Friday night at River Cities, falling back to seventh briefly as he battled Brody Troftgruben for position by using the outside of the Bullring. Strand got back past Troftgruben on the second lap and then passed Joey Pederson in turns three and four on the third lap to move into the top five. From there, Strand abandoned the top and went to the bottom, pulling even with Ryan Corbett on the fifth lap before a caution set up a double file restart. Strand and Corbett resumed their battle this time with Strand on the outside, taking the spot at the end of the circuit. Making it a two-for-one special, Strand moved past Jason Strand in the first and second turns to move into third. Strand, after holding off Jason Strand, moved to the outside of Brad Seng on the 11th lap, taking the second position as the leaders started working lapped traffic. With eight to go, thick lap traffic helped Strand to close in on race long leader Tyler Peterson. Strand had some problems of his own in traffic before more two wide traffic erased Peterson's lead once more. Peterson who had been running low and Strand up high, the two switched lanes going down the back stretch with four to go. Strand used the bottom side coming off of turn four to take the lead. Strand led the final four laps to pick up his second victory of the weekend and his fifth of the season at River Cities. Strand also finished second in the Modified feature Friday night after charging from seventh. Strand started fourth Saturday night at Devils Lake hoping to complete the sweep of the weekend. Strand moved to the inside of Brody Troftgruben at the start in a battle for the second spot Both Troftgruben and Strand used the top side of the speedway to move past Cole Schill to move into first and second respectively. Troftgruben pulled away by a couple car lengths, but Strand erased that disadvantage on lap five, pulling up to Troftgruben’s spoiler. Strand then ducked to Troftgruben’s inside for the first time to attempt to take the lead. The pair battled for a number of laps before Strand finally pulled even and then passed Troftgruben in turns three and four and took the lead with 12 laps to go. Strand remained on the bottom of the race-track as he started working lapped traffic with ten to go. Strand put a lapped car between himself and Troftgruben with eight to go and worked with a little bit of clean air before more traffic appeared in the closing laps. Strand had to deal with the thickest lapped traffic of the race with five to go. At one point the following lap, he had to abandon the bottom and start running the middle to continue to put ground between himself and Troftgruben. Strand lapped two more cars with three to go and continued on to complete the sweep of the weekend. “When the luck comes your way, you gotta ride the wave because it can go the other way in a hurry,” Strand said after completing the sweep. “Things have been clicking really good for us the past few nights and the guys have been doing a heck of a good job in the pits. As long as we can keep the driver hooked on the wheel and keep all the wheels on the car, hopefully we can make a decent run at a few of the year end specials.” Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! East Grand Forks, Minn. (July 15, 2024) - Dustin Strand continued his winning ways last week, winning the Mid-Season Championship at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Strand's win was his fourth at the Bullring so far this season and sixth overall behind the wheel of the No. 71 Walhalla Builders / Mattracks Longhorn.
Strand started the night at River Cities winning his heat race. Strand won the heat by two seconds as his Sturdy Engine sang far out in front of the field on the high-banked quarter-mile.
Strand started on the pole for the 25-lap Mid-Season championship feature and led the opening lap over Brad Seng. Strand started working lapped traffic on lap eight but was already in front by a straightaway before a caution erased his advantage on lap nine. A great restart for Strand saw him back out in front by a half straight away in the first laps following the caution. The final caution with eight to go saw Strand again pull away from Seng and Shane Edginton. Strand led every lap en route to his fourth win at the Bullring so far in 2024. “[The car] would go anywhere, the car was really good,” Strand said in victory lane post-race. “I didn't know what we were gonna have. The heat race was pretty hammer down and I didn't get to watch the B-mods so I didn't know if it was slickening off but usually when the sun goes down, it gets faster here and it did.” On Saturday night, Strand headed to Devils Lake Speedway for the 6th Annual Walhalla Building Center Golder Hammer Classic where he charged from seventh to third in his heat race. Strand started 11th in the 40-lap feature and climbed inside the top ten on lap four. Strand's bad luck at the Classic continued as he was racing for sixth on lap 26. Strand and Shane Edginton made contact which damaged the front suspension too severely for Strand to continue. He was credited with a 19th place finish. The NLRA heads to Aberdeen, SD for another crown jewel in our area, “The Rumble” on Friday and Saturday at Brown County Speedway. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! East Grand Forks, Minn. (July 8, 2024) - Dustin Strand kicked off the month of July in style last Tuesday night as he won his fifth Late Model feature of the season in the No. 71 Walhalla Building Center / Keewatin Truck Service Longhorn at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks after scoring a second place run in Modified competition earlier in the night.
Strand, who was coming off 14th and 20th place finishes with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series the previous weekend at Norman County Raceway and River Cities, returned to the Bullring Tuesday night for the Independence Day special.
Strand, making just his second Modified start of the 2024 campaign, won his heat race in both the Modified and the Late Model. Strand started sixth in the Modified feature, and following an opening lap pileup, Strand was inside the top five for all of the 21-laps. Strand battled early with Bryce Borgen, Ward Imrie, and Davey Mills, going three-wide on a few occasions. Strand finally broke away from that four-car battle to take the third spot and set his sights on Aaron Blacklance for second. On lap nine, Strand took second from Blacklance and spent the rest of the race looking to reel-in Dustin Wahl for the lead. Strand was getting closer late in the race but ran out of time and finished second as the race went green-to-checkered following the opening lap pile-up. Strand rolled off seventh in the Late Model feature and again started the race moving forward early. In three laps, Strand made his way up to third. On lap six he passed Amelia Eisenschenk for second then passed Shane Edginton to take the lead two laps later, both passes were made via the cushion of the quarter-mile. Strand held his lead following cautions with eight and then four laps remaining and went on to win his fifth Late Model feature of the season. “This thing was a joy to drive,” Strand said in Victory Lane post-race. “The crew was working their butts off and it was fun. I didn't think they were gonna get the race in to tell you the truth because we just got pounded with rain yesterday. The track was phenomenal compared to what I thought it was going to be and we could race high and low and through the middle. This car would go anywhere.” Strand returns to River Cities on Friday before heading back to Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night for the $5,000-to-win 6th Annual Golden Hammer Classic presented by Walhalla Building Center. East Grand Forks, Minn. (June 25, 2024) - Rainouts continue to be an issue for racers across the valley as Dustin Strand was only able to race once last weekend, scoring a sixth place run in the No. 71 Walhalla Building Center / Keewatin Truck Service Longhorn at I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN.
Strand charged from fifth to second in his heat race and drew the sixth starting spot for the 29-car 25-lap main event. Strand slipped up the track in turn two on the initial start and fell back to the ninth spot.
Through six circuits around the three-eighths mile oval, Strand remained in the top ten when a pair of cautions reset the field. Strand took eighth from Mitch Johnson when the race resumed. Strand continued to regain spots from there and took seventh from Don Shaw just before the midway point. With ten to go, Strand made another pass on Brody Troftgruben to get back to his original sixth starting spot. Strand was reeling in Shane Edginton in hopes of a top five but ran out of time as the final 19 laps went green-to-checkered with Strand finishing sixth. Strand and the rest of the NLRA had hoped to get the 6th Annual Walhalla Building Center Golden Hammer Classic at Devils Lake Speedway in the books but an early evening storm ended hopes of getting the race underway. Strand is now just 14 points behind Cole Schill in his pursuit of a fifth series championship which will head back to Devils Lake on July 13th. East Grand Forks, Minn. (June 18, 2024) - Dustin Strand kept his NLRA hot streak alive last Friday night at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND as he won his third series feature, and fourth overall, of the 2024 campaign. Strand's 32nd career NLRA triumph also put him back on top of the series standings in his search for a fifth series championship.
Strand kept his heat win streak alive at the start of the night at Red River Valley Speedway as he won his heat from the third starting spot. Strand went on to draw the third starting spot for the 25-lap main event.
Strand made it past second starting Greg Friestad in the first pair of turns and completed the opening lap in the second spot. Strand then pulled even with Lee Grosz on the third lap to enter in a side-by-side battle for the lead. Strand and Grosz remained door-to-door until a lap six caution. Strand got a bite of the bottom of the second turn to take the lead on the restart. Strand led the field back to green following a lap seven pileup in turn four and led a couple more laps before the third caution of the race a few laps later. Strand began to open up an advantage over Don Shaw near the midway point during the longest green flag segment of the race. As Strand was about to have to work lapped traffic with eight laps to go, the final caution of the race allowed Strand to run the final circuits in clean air. Strand went on to win his third NLRA series feature of the season and 32nd of his career. “I tell you this car just kinda drives like a dream,” Strand said in victory lane post-race. “We got this Longhorn at the end of last year and it's one bad Hot Rod. I really couldn't do it without my boys and the pits. Nate and Matt keep me rockin’ and I just get the pleasure to hold the steering wheel.” Strand made the trip to Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND on Saturday night as the final tune-up for Saturday’s 6th Annual, 40-lap, $5,000-to-win Walhalla Building Centers Golden Hammer Classic. Strand’s heat win streak came to an end, but he still finished in the top three which set up a row four start in the 25-lap main event. Strand passed three cars on the opening circuit to make his way into the top five where he remained for the duration of the event. Strand passed Cole Babcock on the second lap for fourth and then set his sights on Jason Strand and Rusty Kollman for a podium finish. With ten laps left Strand caught Kollman and moved into his eventual finishing position of third as the race went caution free and lasted just over six minutes. Strand heads to I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN on Friday night as the new NLRA point leader and will follow the series back to Devils Lake Saturday night for the aforementioned Golden Hammer Classic which is also an NLRA series race. Strand heads into the weekend leading by 14 points over Cole Schill. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! Walhalla Building Center Inc. East Grand Forks, Minn. (June 10, 2024) - Dustin Strand collected his second win of the season Friday night in dramatic fashion as a last lap pass put the No. 71 Bun Lounge / Shocker Hitch Longhorn back in victory lane for the second consecutive week, 50th time in Late Model competition, and 106th time overall at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.
Strand started third in the 25-lap main event which was delayed two-hour by rain. Strand completed the opening lap in second as Laela Eisenschenk led the opening lap from the pole. Strand took the lead on the third lap and led through two cautions and a red through six laps. Strand lost the lead to Shane Edginton on lap eight but remained second through another caution and a second red flag just past the midway point. The remaining 12 laps went caution free as Strand reeled in Edginton in traffic with three laps left. Strand slipped past Edginton using the bottom of turns three and four, stealing the win at the line by just .049 seconds. “I tell you Shane's about one of the best in the business on the bottom,” Strand said in victory lane post-race. “I wanted to stay up high because it was a little smoother, but he was so good around the bottom once we'd get into about a six to eight lap run. I started reeling him in a little bit but that was definitely his race and a lapped car kind of screwed him up and we were able to capitalize on it. That must’ve been pretty close at the line there.” Strand continued his heat win streak Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway in weekly Late Model action but started ninth in the 25-lap main event. Strand's march through the field started on a lap eight restart as he split Steve Anderson and Tucker Pederson to move into the top five for the first time. From there, Strand continued to slice and dice his way to the front, passing Joey Pederson to take third at the conclusion of lap eight. Travis Robertson was next on the list as Strand completed a slider at the line to take second to end lap nine. Strand took a peek to the inside of leader Brody Troftgruben on a restart with 12 laps left but remained a solid second until the final caution with six circuits remaining. Strand held off Robertson in the final laps to finish as the runner-up. This week, Strand follows the NLRA to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo on Friday night and heads back to Devils Lake on Saturday for more weekly action. Grand Forks, N.D. (June 4, 2024) - Dustin Strand rebounded from mechanical issues in his heat race early on Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks as the NLRA held its first series point race at the Bullring for the 2024 season.
Strand, like many drivers in the Red River Valley, had been stuck at home for two weeks due to a rain-filled Memorial Day weekend, but was out front in his heat race when he had to pull to the infield in the closing laps with smoke trailing the No. 71 FREIJE Farms / Bemidji Welders Supply Longhorn.
Dustin and crew scrambled back to the shop and made repairs in time to take his spot on the pole for the makeup feature which was rained out two weeks prior. Strand beat the field to turn one at the drop of the green and held a five-car length advantage over Ryan Corbett through five laps. Strand worked lapped traffic for the final dozen laps but consistently had more traffic between him and Corbett as the second half of the race began. Strand continued on to victory by over five-and-a-half seconds over Brody Troftgruben and Corbett as the race went flag-to-flag in just over five minutes. Strand has won every heat he has finished so far this year following Saturday's win at I-94 but redrew the inside of the fourth row for the 30-lap main event. Strand immediately made his way into the top five in the opening pair of laps, but a pair of caution saw Shane Edginton battle for that final spot in the top five. The race was slowed by a number of cautions around the midway point, but Strand took second following the cautions as the remainder of the race finished under green, finishing as the runner-up. This week sees more NLRA action at River Cities as the series co-headlines with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Friday night. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! East Grand Forks, Minn. (May 20, 2024) - Like most drivers in the area there was very little on track action last weekend but Dustin Strand was able to keep his season long heat win streak going in the No. 71 Longhorn before thunderstorms ended the night early at River Cities Speedway.
Coming off his 30th NLRA feature win, Strand returned to River Cities Friday night where he started fourth in his heat race. Strand went four-wide with Tom Corcoran, Shane Edginton, and Dan McNamee in turns one and two at the start, completing the lap in second.
Strand took the lead from Edginton on the second lap and went on to his third heat win in as many nights in Late Model action in the area. The race night was in hurry up mode all night as a line of storms looked to end the night early which eventually happened following the Midwest Mod feature. When the feature is made up, Strand will start on the pole of the make-up feature. This week, Strand will return to River Cities with the Late Model and, for the first time this season, his WISSOTA Modified. Strand's weekend will continue with a return trip to Dead Horse Creek Speedway in Morden, MB as he'll look to extend his NLRA point lead as he battles for his fifth series championship. East Grand Forks, Minn. (May 16, 2024) - Dustin Strand parked the No. 71 Walhalla Building Center Inc. / Keewatin Truck Service Longhorn in victory lane during the NLRA Late Model season opener at Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND last Saturday night.
Strand started his opening weekend of the 2024 campaign last Friday night at River Cities Speedway, winning his heat from the third starting spot. Strand started fourth in the 20-lap main event and had just moved into the second spot after as the leaders started working lapped traffic.
Unfortunately, Strand was caught up in a four-car pileup in turn two on lap seven, ending a promising run early. Strand and crew worked through the night and the next day to make repairs to join the NLRA at Devils Lake Speedway for the track and the series' season lid-lifters. Strand won his heat and drew the fourth starting spot for the 25-lap feature. Strand immediately made his wat to the front of the field, taking the lead on the second circuit. Strand, for a majority of the race, was unchallenged save for a few peeks to the inside by Shane Edginton midway through the race. Strand held the lead on a late caution as he was about to work lapped traffic again and continued on to his 30th NLRA feature win, which is second on the all-time list, becoming just the second driver to eclipse that mark. "It’s pretty cool to be second on the all-time wins list," Strand said post-race. "The car was really good. I was a little worried after last night, we kinda tore up the car and the guys worked their tails off and got things put together. Then you always have it in the back of your mind, “is it going to be as good?” But it might be better, I don't know. My car was awesome tonight though.” Strand returns to River Cities Friday night with the Late Model for week two of action at River Cities Speedway. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (February 1, 2024) - Dustin Strand's debut at Central Arizona Raceway is in the books, scoring three podium finishes in the No. 71 Flagstaff Nissan Subaru / Keewatin Truck Service Millenium SRT and finishing the six-race mini-series making 31 passes, including a pair of hard charges where he passed ten cars or more.
Strand opened the event on January 18th with a podium finish in the opening night's main event. Strand made his way from the outside of the third row and was just about to take the lead when a caution flag flew. Strand went on to finish third behind Billy Moyer and Ricky Weiss. Strand finished just short of a second top ten on night two, finishing eleventh. But this was the first time during the six-race event that Strand sliced through the field to earn his result. Strand started last following fuel filter issues in his heat and passed 15 cars in 25 laps. Arguably, Strand's best run came during week two of the Early Thaw as he charged through the field once more. Strand started 13th on night five of the event and charged his way all the way through the field to earn his third podium finish in five races. Strand capped off his seventh early season trip to the southwest with a fourth-place finish, scoring his fourth top five in six nights. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (January 18, 2024) - For the seventh time in eight years, Dustin Strand is set to take the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating / Walhalla Building Center Millenium SRT Late Model to the Southwest for six nights of action at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande for the Ernie Mincy Early Thaw starting January 18th.
Strand is no stranger to making the early season trek to the southwest as he has competed at the Wild West Shootout since 2016, but this season he will return to Arizona after competing at Vado Raceway Park in New Mexico last January.
Another change to Strand's early season lid-lifter will be switching from campaigning his Modified for Late Model action, as he has run in the Modified and B-Mod divisions since 2018. Strand was the breakout star of the opening night of action in 2016 as he was running inside the top three against some of the best Late Model drivers in the county, but a mechanical failure erased that podium performance. Strand scored three top tens in his two trips to Arizona in Late Model action in 2016 and 2017. In Late Model action during the 2023 season, Strand chalked up five feature victories and 28 top tens in 33 nights of action. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 5, 2023) - Heading into arguably the biggest weekend of the entire season, Dustin Strand debuted a brand-new car last weekend, winning in its debut race and winning his sixth River Cities Speedway Late Model points championship. Strand went three-for-three in top fives after a runner-up and fourth place finish with the NLRA Late Models at Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN which leads into this week's 17th annual John Seitz Memorial at River Cities.
Friday night at River Cities saw Dustin dominate his heat race, setting up a start on the front row in the 20-lap main event. Taking the lead from the pole, Strand was on cruise control as the next 15 laps went caution free.
A caution with five to go erased a half lap lead, but continued on to lead every lap he ran during the night, winning by a straightaway for his fifth victory at the speedway in 2023 in Late Model competition and securing his sixth Late Model title at the speedway. This championship is also his tenth overall at the Bullring combined with a Super Stock title in 2006, and three Midwest Mods titles (2007-08, and 2011.) “This car is pretty badass,” Strand said in victory lane, confirming that the entry is brand new. “I'm looking forward to next weekend. I think we've got a pretty good piece here and we’re pretty excited. We've had a pretty good program here all year. We've had some pretty good speed, had some bad luck in between but overall we've had a pretty awesome year and hopefully we can keep it going next weekend.” Strand followed the NLRA Late Models north to Greenbush Race Park for a Labor Day double header at the speedway where he started on the outside of the third row in each 25-lap feature. Saturday's feature saw Strand follow Joey Pederson as the only drivers inside the top ten to run the top of the track consistently throughout the race. Strand abandoned the top in turns three and four as the leaders negotiated through thick lapped traffic near the midway point. A caution with seven laps remaining saw restart on the outside of the second double-file row. Strand continued to utilize the top to get past Bryce Sward in the closing laps to score a fourth place run. Night two saw Pederson and Strand again run the tip early, this time battling for second. Strand went for second with a slide job in turn two on lap 11, with Pederson hoping for a cross under in turn three. Pederson and a lapped car made contact, ending his race. The race resumed with Strand as the new runner-up as he remained close to leader Mike Greseth until the final caution with ten to go. Holding off Tyler Pederson on the final restart, Strand remained a close second to Greseth past the checkered flag. This week Strand will return to River Cities for the 17th annual John Seitz Memorial which runs from Thursday through Saturday. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 29, 2023) - With one more night of track points on the line at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, Dustin Strand helped inch closer to his next track championship last Friday night by finishing second in the main event in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating / Keewatin Truck Service Millenium SRT.
After charging from seventh to second in his heat race, Strand rolled off on the outside of the third row in the 25-lap main event last Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Strand fell back to as low as seventh following a lap two restart but moved into the top five on lap six.
Improving to fourth on lap nine, Strand closed in on Joey Pederson for third. With the leaders entering lapped traffic, Strand took third in turn four at the conclusion of lap 11. Remaining third through thick traffic at the midway point, a caution on lap 18 saw Strand lineup to the outside of Brody Troftgruben as the race went back green. Strand took second and held it through the final caution with four laps to go, eventually finishing the race as the runner-up. Strand heads into Friday night with a 35-point lead over Brad Seng. Strand won his first Late Model title at the speedway in 2015, eventually going on a four-year streak of championships. Strand last won the title in the class in 2020. The championship would also be Strand's tenth at the track. Strand won the final Super Stock championship in 2006 and followed that up by winning the first two Midwest Mod titles in 2007 and 2008. Strand's Thursday at Red River Valley Speedway started with his first of three consecutive heat race wins on the weekend. Strand redrew the eighth starting spot for the 25-lap main event and avoided disaster early as fellow heat winners Mike Greseth and Josh Zimple crashed on the front stretch at what would've been the close of the opening lap.
Strand ran the top of the third-mile oval on the resumption of the race, going three-wide with Chad Becker and Brad Seng, ending the opening circuit in fifth. Strand remained as one of the few drivers to stick with the topside of the track as he battled with Mitch Johnson and Brad Seng for the fourth through sixth spots. Strand abandoned the top a few laps later after falling to seventh. A caution with eleven laps left saw Strand continue to lap close to the Johnson/Seng battle which now included Cole Schill. The closing laps saw the order remain similar as Strand finished the race in sixth. Another heat win at the beginning of the second and final night of the Schill Memorial was followed by a poor redraw which saw Strand start tenth. Following a caution for Becker on the initial start, the race went green-to-checkered. The 30-laps ran in just over nine minutes, and once Strand found his place running the bottom of the track, was able to make up a few spots, finishing seventh. Strand rounded out the weekend running the fifth annual Walhalla Building Center Golden Hammer Classic at Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. Strand won his third heat race of the weekend and drew the third starting spot for the $5,000-to-win feature. Strand remained inside the top five until the third caution of the race on lap ten. Some close quarters action saw Strand get the short end of the stick in turns one and two as he slid up the track, falling back to seventh. The final caution on lap 17 again failed to help Strand, who had rebounded to run just outside the top five but slipped back to eighth in the final third of the race. This week, Strand returns to River Cities and Devils Lake for more Late Model action. Strand is four points behind Brody Troftgruben with one race left at Devils Lake, and ten points behind Brad Seng with two races left at River Cities. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 15, 2023) - With just one race on the schedule before the busy fall specials season begins, Dustin Strand parked the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating / Keewatin Truck Service Millenium SRT NLRA Late Model in victory lane at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday night for the fourth time during the 2023 campaign.
Following a run from fourth to first in his heat race, Strand lined up ninth in the 20-lap main event. Three cautions in the first three laps slowed the pace of the race following a rain delay earlier on in the evening.
An eleven-lap green flag run followed with Strand climbing into the top five. On the ensuing restart, Strand passed Tom Corcoran for third, then went around Brody Troftgruben and John Seng to take the lead while running around the bottom of the quarter-mile Bullring with three laps left. Strand led the final three laps to score his fourth Late Model win of the season at the track, and seventh overall with three Modified wins combined. “Yeah, we were pretty lucky there,” Strand said after the race. “Had we just stayed green we were probably a fourth-place car. [The track] was pretty narrow. The dang rain kind of screwed us up and then Brody and John had a heck of a race and I think they just touched tires which was unfortunate for both of them, and I was able to sneak under him. Strand continued, “it feels great to win against the caliber of drivers like this. Any way we can get it, we'll take it.” This week, Strand has three opportunities at some pretty good pay days with the two-night Howie Schill Memorial at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND and the Golden Hammer Classic on Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 9, 2023) - For the third time this season, Dustin Strand had the opportunity to win in both the No. 71 Walhalla Building Center Millenium SRT Late Model and No. 71 Bemidji Welders Supply Mullens by Millenium Modified on the same night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, and came close in both time, bringing home runner up finishes in each feature.
Strand started his Friday night at the 'Bullring' winning both his Modified and Late Model heat race from the outside of the front row. To keep the trend going, Strand was scheduled to roll off on the outside of the fourth row in each 20-lap main event.
Strand remained eighth in the opening five trips around the tricky quarter-mile, searching for the best line to start moving through the field. Strand's first pass on Ryan Schroeder came by running the bottom, but the top soon became Strand's line of choice, passing Joseph Thomas before a caution at the midway point. A series of issues with spins in the front of the pack saw Strand improve to fourth on the second shot at a nine to go restart, which saw Strand move around the bottom of the track to pass Aaron Holton and Tanner Williamson to take second. The final caution with three to go saw Strand pull even with Tyler Peterson for the race lead, but Strand ended the race in the third spot. Heading immediately to the pits to hop out of the Modified to jump in the Late Model for his second 20-lap feature of the night. Following a slow start to the race, which was marred by cautions, Strand went three-wide to the outside of Joey Pederson and Mitch Johnson on a lap two restart to take sixth place. Another pair of cautions on lap seven saw Strand move into the top five as the race went back green. A three-lap battle with Brody Troftgruben for position saw the pair spin in turn one with eight to go, but Strand continued on to restart with the fourth spot. A restart with six to go saw Strand move into second, which led to the final restart with three circuits remaining giving Strand one last shot at the win. Fending off Brad Seng for second, Strand finished on Joey Pederson's spoiler, finishing second for the second time in the nine o'clock hour. Strand attended regular season Late Model competition at Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night, where Strand remained perfect on the weekend, winning his third heat race in 24 hours. Starting the final 20-lapper of his weekend, Strand started on the outside of the third row. Strand waged war with Jayson Good early on, remaining door-to-door while running the cushion through five trips around the high-banked one-third mile oval. Still running the cushion, Strand went three-wide with Pederson and Good on a lap nine restart, remaining fifth. Strand, while lapping close behind Good and Troftgruben, began having to fend off John Seng to remain in the top five. With the final 12 laps going caution free, the Strand/Seng battle continued to be one of the best battles in the closing laps, though Strand came up short on the final lap, finishing sixth. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 2, 2023) - For the fourth time this season, Dustin Strand will have the opportunity to bring both the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT Late Model and the No. 71 Keewatin Truck Service Mullens by Millenium Modified to River Cities Speedway this Friday night. The previous two times Strand has run both cars at the Speedway, he won in both cars on the same night.
Last week’s racing action started Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN with Strand charging from sixth to third in his heat race, setting up a ninth-place start in the first of three 25 lap main events of the weekend. In a caution free race that lasted just over eight minutes, Strand had little time to make up spots. But make up spots he did, charging into the top five in just three laps. From there, Strand set his sights on Brad Seng for fourth. Strand took the spot on lap four, then reeled in Shane Edginton for the third spot. Following a ten-lap race with Edginton for the position, Strand moved into third with 12 laps to go, and remained third for the duration of the race. Heading back to River Cities Speedway on Friday night, Strand won his heat and started on the outside of the front row in the second 25-lap feature of the weekend. After trailing pole sitter Brad Seng through the first pair of corners, Strand took the lead on the exit of turn four to lead the opening circuit. Just like a week prior, Strand was spared from having to make his first run through lapped cars as a caution flag flew with five laps in the books. Strand wasn't done with traffic or challenges for the lead, however, as point leader Mike Greseth reeled in Strand for the lead just past the ten-lap mark. A second caution at the midway point allowed Strand to keep the lead, but the final trip through lapped traffic saw Greseth move inside and then past Strand for the lead with ten laps to go. Strand went on to cross under the checkers in second. Strand and crew headed north for another NLRA date at Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN to complete their weekend on Saturday night. Another heat win from the third starting spot set up a start on the pole in the final 25 lapper of the weekend. Strand's night was off to a great start once again, as he led the opening six laps before a lap seven caution. Strand's luck continued to fail him as a trip to the work area soon followed. Restarting 17th, Strand saw the remainder of the race go caution free as he fell just short of rebound into the top ten, finishing 11th. This week Strand will have another opportunity to win two races in one night as the Late Models and Modifieds will be on the card on Hall-of-Fame Night at River Cities. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 25, 2023) - Dustin Strand scored both ends of another night of double duty last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, winning the 29th feature of his career with the Northern Late Model Racing Association, then going on to win the Moonshine Mod Tour's debut at the quarter-mile 'Bullring.'
Strand's week started with the brand-new Moonshine Mod Tour making its first appearance at Ada's Norman County Raceway. Climbing from fifth to third in his heat race, Strand re-drew the eighth starting spot for the 30-lap feature.
Strand, in just two laps, rolled around the bottom of the three-eighths mile oval into the top five. Strand then moved on to battle Blake Jegtvig for third. A pair of restarts hurt Strand, however. Strand fell back to sixth on a lap seven restart, but had regained a spot inside the top five, holding the spot over Tyler Peterson until a caution just past the midway point. Falling to sixth one final time, Strand got past Mike Stearns to come home fifth. Returning to River Cities on Friday night, Strand and crew brought both the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating / Bemidji Welders Supply Millenium SRT NLRA Late Model and the No. 71 Bemidji Marine / Novacek Honey Farms Mullens by Millenium Modified. Finishing second in the Late Model heat, Strand won his modified heat from the fifth starting spot. Strand started on the pole of the Late Model feature, but trailed Brad Seng at the start. Strand ran the cushion on a lap three restart, taking the top spot shortly thereafter. Strand was about to lose the lead and third in lapped traffic before a lap ten caution. With clear air, Strand continued to lead through another slowdown at the midway point, slowly pulling away from Seng and Peterson. Strand was saved from having to re-enter lapped traffic with nine left on the scoreboard and continued to rip around the top with the lead after one last caution with seven to go, switching low to move around traffic late to score the victory. "Well, I tell ya, I think the cautions saved my butt," Strand said in victory lane post-race. "I didn't like to see [the cautions], but they came at the perfect time right when I was getting to lapped cars. When I got those guys at the end, I knew we had a pretty good lead, but I didn't evidently go low enough over here, and got caught up in the middle on the last lap. And I thought, ugh, I'm gonna throw it away on the last lap here, but it worked out good. The car was rockin', the guys have been working their butts off, and we've got one more feature later tonight." Speaking of that feature, Strand had a taller task ahead of him, having to start on the outside of row four. Strand lapped on the bottom early, eventually climbing into the top five on lap three. Strand again battled Peterson for position, this time taking fourth, then reeling in the top three. Strand caught the leaders in traffic just past the first handful of laps of the scheduled 30 circuits. Strand moved into second just before the halfway mark, chasing down Thursday night winner Zach Johnson. Strand pulled even to the inside of turn four at the conclusion of lap 15, taking the lead the following lap. From there, Strand moved from high-to-low to continue to put lapped cars between himself and Johnson. Strand continued on unchallenged to win the green-to-checkered affair. Strand talked about his win in the Modified, saying “the bottom lane was, I thought, the fast way, and I was probably overdoing the top a little bit, sliding up in that crummy stuff. And I knew I needed to slow down, but I couldn't make myself do it. But I rolled by Zach on the top in lapped cars, and he got back by me, and I thought we were going to be in trouble. But we were able to put it together, and this thing would go anywhere." Strand had one more race on the schedule, which was another NLRA feature at Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. Strand improved from fourth to second in his heat race, again drawing the pole for the main event. Strand looked as though NLRA win number 30 was a good possibility early, leading the first 16 laps. On a late restart, both Brad and John Seng were able to move low around Strand. Strand, following some close racing with the new lead duo, got a bit high in turn four and ended up finishing in sixth. This week, Strand has another pair of NLRA appearances ahead at River Cities on Friday and at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 19, 2023) - The Northern Late Model Racing Association schedule kicked into high gear last week as Dustin Strand and his No. 71 Walhalla Building Center / Keewatin Truck Service Millenium SRT is in the middle of a stretch that sees nearly a third of the schedule run in a three-week period starting last week at South Dakota's Brown County Speedway for their annual Rumble event.
On night one, Strand charged from sixth to third in his heat race and started 11th in the 30-lap main event. Running well inside the top ten early on in the race, Strand decided to try the highline on what had become a bottom dominant surface at the third-mile oval. Strand fell back in the order, eventually finishing 14th. Night two saw a better start as a heat win from fourth set up a fifth place start in the main event. Strand, who had been running inside or near the top five throughout the first half of the race, passed Shane Edginton on the high side on the backstretch with 13 laps to go to move onto the podium. Having reeled in the leaders Chase Gelling and Cole Searing, Strand remained within striking distance in lapped traffic when a caution flag flew with five circuits remaining. Lining up to Searing's inside on the ensuing restart, Strand and Dustin Arthur made contact in turn four, ending Strand's bid at the win. This week, Strand returns to River Cities and Devils Lake Speedway for more NLRA series action. Strand leads the track points at River Cities and has two wins at the 'Bullring' so far this season. Heading an hour west to Devils Lake for Saturday night, Strand in 15 previous series starts at the one-third mile oval has finished outside of the top five just once in features he was able to start, which was a seventh place run last August for an average finish of 2.6 with four feature wins. Strand will head into the weekend second in the NLRA series standings, as the four-time series standings is just 44 markers back of the top spot. STRAND SCORES SECOND LATE MODEL WIN AT RIVER CITIES; TAKES POINT LEAD
7/12/2023
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 10, 2023) - Dustin Strand made another trip to victory lane in the No. 71 Miller Motivations / Naastad Acres Millenium SRT NLRA Late Model last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, which also made Strand, the five-time track champion, the new point leader in the season long standings at the 'Bullring'.
Strand started his night with a heat race win. With it being Midseason championship night, a heat win in heat two gave him a starting spot on the outside of the front row for the 20-lap main event.
Strand took the lead at the start, and continued to lead following a caution on the second circuit. Strand lapped around the top of turns one and two, while running the bottom of turns three and four as he held off Tyler Peterson for the top spot.
Peterson edged ahead on the backstretch a couple of times, but by the time the pair reached lapped traffic, Strand was able to split a pair of cars to allow for a bit of breathing room with eight to go.
Peterson did catch back up and made a pair of peeks to Strand's inside late, but Strand continued on for the win.
"I tell you, about a month ago we thought we had really found something with this car, it's been awesome," Strand said in victory lane post race. "Until about two weeks ago, we had a little issue. I made contact with the right rear tire, and since then we haven't been able to get it to go, but I think we got 'er back."
Along with the win, Strand improved to an incredible 15-for-16 in top ten finishes in the division at the midway point of the 2023 campaign.
On Saturday night, Strand made his first trip to Canada since June of 2019 to run at the newly reopened Dead Horse Creek Speedway in Morden, Manitoba. This was an opportunity to run both in the Late Model and in his Mullens by Millenium Modified.
Strand's night started with a heat win in the Modified and a second place run in the Late Model. Strand started deep in the Modified feature on the outside of the fourth row, but ended up passing six cars en route to a runner-up finish. Strand went on to finish fourth in the Late Model feature.
This week, Strand will head to Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, SD for the annual Rumble event which will run under the Northern Late Model Racing Association banner for the first time. Strand will head into the double header as the series point leader.

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 5, 2023) - Dustin Strand scored his third win of the season behind the wheel of the No. 71 Keewatin Truck Service / Novacek Honey Farms Mullens by Millenium last Saturday night at Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN
Strand started his night with a runner-up finish in his heat race from the fourth starting spot. Strand went on to start on the outside of the third row for the 20 lap main event. Strand wasted no time finding his way to the front of the field, taking the top spot on the third lap. From there it was all Strand out front, leading all of the remaining laps to score the victory. The win is his third in his seven Modified starts in the area this season. Strand was also in action last Friday night at River Cities Speedway as the World of Outlaws Late Models made their annual visit to Grand Forks. Strand went out late in his qualifying group and had to make up ground from there. Strand finished just shy of making the main with a sixth place finish in his Last Chance Showdown. Strand returns to River Cities on Friday night just six points back of the point lead in the Late Model division. Strand, the 2016 National Champion, is also fifth in the WISSOTA National Title hunt in the Late Model division at the midway point of this season's campaign. The No. 71 team will also head north of the border to Dead Horse Creek Speedway in Morden, Manitoba on Saturday. Strand will be in action with both the Late Model and Modified. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 27, 2023) - Dustin Strand is now on top of the Northern Late Model Racing Association standings following a week of close calls in series action, scoring a pair of top fives, and three top tens in the No. 71 Bemidji Marine / Novacek Honey Farms Millenium SRT.
The week started on Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN with a second place run in his heat race. Strand went on to re-draw the outside of the front row for the 25 lap main event. Strand led through four cautions in the first six laps of the race, but on the fourth restart, Strand survived contact with Tyler Pederson to continue in the third position. The final restart went single file, with Strand nursing a damaged left front suspension home in the third spot. On Friday, Strand and crew headed south to I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for another night of NLRA action. Following a heat win, Strand and the rest of the field were in hurry-up mode trying to beat the weather. Strand rolled off on the inside of the second row at the beginning of the 25 lap feature. Strand pushed going into turn one on the second lap while losing a few more spots on a lap five restart, falling back to as far as ninth by lap eight. From there, Strand went on to his first comeback of the weekend. Moving to the bottom of the three-eighths mile oval, Strand got one spot back on each of five consecutive laps between laps 8 and 12 to move back into the top five. Strand made one more pass in the closing laps to finish fourth. With the Walhalla Builders Golden Hammer Classic postponed on Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway, Strand rounded out the weekend with the annual Fair race at River Cities Speedway on Sunday evening. After another heat win, Strand started on the inside of row two for the second time in three nights. The early part of the main event was marred by cautions, one of which saw Strand involved in a ten car pileup when his car stalled on a restart. With his crew making quick repairs in the pits, Strand made his way back to the Speedway, restarting 14th. It only took Strand two trips around the 'Bullring' to make it back inside the top ten, but he wasn't done there. In four of the next five laps, Strand made up another position, running one spot shy of a top five with ten laps left. Strand had fifth until one final green-white-checkered restart. Losing one spot on the ensuing restart, Strand finished sixth, taking the NLRA point lead. The World of Outlaws Late Models make their annual visit to River Cities Speedway this week. Strand will take on the most powerful Late Models on the planet right in his backyard on Friday night, with racing starting at 7:00pm. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 20, 2023) - Dustin Strand reached a milestone last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks as he won his 100th career feature at the quarter-mile oval in his No. 71 The Bun Lounge / RHRSwag.com Millenium by Mullens Modified, and his 101st win in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating / Walhalla Building Center Millenium SRT.
Dustin started his second night of double duty at the 'Bullring' with a pair of second place heat race finishes, including a charge from sixth in his Late Model. Dustin started third in the 20 lap Modified feature, and immediately went three wide with front row starters Shawn Teunis and Ryan Schroeder for the lead. Strand grabbed the lead off turn four at the completion of the opening lap. Two cautions in the first three laps slowed the pace of the race, but as the race went green for a stretch, Strand was able to remain a few car lengths in front of second running Tyler Peterson. With six laps remaining, Peterson was able to pull even with Strand, but held on to the top spot in the final laps to win his 100th career feature at the speedway. "I tell ya the track was really good on the bottom," Strand said in victory lane. "I never got to try top cause we started towards the front, and we got up there into lapped cars, and things got pretty tight when I did move up and kinda went through the middle. I saw Tyler underneath me and I thought, 'I gotta go,' and I knew he was right on me, and I just decided to put it on the cushion and go." Strand went on to start eighth in the 20 lap Late Model feature, splitting Brandon Corbett and Greg Moore at the end of the second lap to move into second. On a lap six restart, Strand used the cushion again, this time passing Tom Corcoran to take the lead. Strand kept the lead through a lap ten restart, but another caution with six circuits remaining gave Tyler Peterson another shot at the lead. The pair traded the lead and some sliders a few times in the next three laps, but contact between the two entering turn one with two to go saw Strand go for a spin, and Peterson charged with the caution. Strand was able to hold the lead on the restart, winning his second feature of the night, and his first Late Model win of the 2023 campaign. Strand and crew then brought the Late Model out to Devils Lake for one final shakedown ahead of this weekend's Walhalla Builders Golden Hammer Classic. Strand won his heat from fourth, and moved up from fourth to second in the feature, which was shortened due to a rollover by Blake Anderson on lap 14. All of us at Strand Racing continue to wish Blake the best and hope for a speedy recovery. This weekend, Strand has a big four-race swing with the NLRA Late Models on tap. It'll kick off Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota for the track's special during the Norman County Fair. On Friday, the series heads to I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minnesota before returning to Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday. The weekend will come to a close Sunday evening at River Cities Speedway during the Greater Grand Forks Fair. Strand is currently tied for third in NLRA points. (June 13, 2023) - Three more Late Model races are in the books for Dustin Strand, earning a pair of runner-up finishes in the No. 71 Bemidji Marine / Shocks by Hammer Millenium SRT at Norman County Raceway and in Northern Late Model Racing Association action at Greenbush Race Park.
Strand started his week of racing on Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, running fifth in his heat race. Rolling off fourth in the main event, Strand made a pair of passes in the first two laps on Jason Strand and Mitch Johnson to move into the runner-up spot. Strand went on to finish second. On Friday night at River Cities Speedway, Strand improved from fifth to third in his heat race. Starting mid pack in the 20 lap feature, Strand was able to start climbing from his starting spot on the outside of row six, when four yellow flags flew in a period of four laps around the midway point of the race. Making up five spots between laps ten and twelve, Strand went on to make one final pass with three to go on Brody Troftgruben to finish one spot shy of a top five with a sixth place run. On Saturday night, Strand made the trip north to follow the NLRA tour to Minnesota's Greenbush Race Park, where he started the evening having to climb from fifth again, but this time finishing second. Taking the initial green on the outside of row two in the 25 lap main event, Strand immediately moved into a podium spot, where he remained until the final laps. Strand reeled in Brad Seng late in the race, as the pair traded the second and third spots five times in the final eight laps. Strand won the battle, finishing second for the second time in three nights. Strand will head to Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, ND on Thursday before doing double duty again this Friday night at River Cities as the track hosts both Late Models and Modifieds. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 5, 2023) - Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Bemidji Welders Supply / Naastad Acres Millenium SRT, brought home a pair of top ten finishes with the Northern Late Model Racing Association last weekend at River Cities an I-94 emr Speedways.
On Friday night, Strand started and finished in the third position in his heat race, which put him on the outside of row five for the 25 lap main event. Strand wasted no time making his way forward, making three passes in the opening lap, moving up to seventh. While running in eighth during a caution that came out just past the midway point, Strand made another three-pass run at the drop of the green, as he made his way into the top five. Despite losing a couple spots in the waning laps, Strand ended up with a seventh place finish. On Saturday night, Strand followed the rest of the NLRA down the road to I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for another night of double duty, as he and the crew brought the No. 71 Millenium by Mullens along to run at the Dick Johanneck Memorial King of the Dirt. Strand won both heat races, and was scheduled to start eighth in the Late Model and seventh in the Modified. Strand again moved forward at the start of the Late Model feature, running sixth on lap two, and seventh until a caution on lap 13 of the 30 lap special. Strand lost two spots on the ensuing restart, and spent the remainder of the race battling in the second half of the top ten, finishing ninth. Strand then hopped into the Modified and again ran sixth early, but ended up heading pit side early on lap 12. This week, Strand returns to River Cities with just the Late Model as he will be looking to score career win number 100 at the Speedway. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 31, 2023) - It's been a great start to the local Modified season for Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing and Heating / Shocker Hitch Mullens by Millenium, as he scored his first victory of the 2023 campaign last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND.
Strand kicked-off a busy slate of four races in four days by doing double duty at River Cities Speedway last Friday night. After starting the night without the best draw numbers, Strand went on the charge early. Improving from fifth to second in his Modified heat race, Strand also improved another three spots in his late model heat on the wind whipped, dry slick quarter-mile bullring.
Strand went on from there to start on the pole of the Modified main event, "It helped to start in the front," Strand said in victory lane post-race. "We had a low point average cause the driver failed a little bit last week. We had an awesome car last week, and I drove it off the end. Just gotta thank the boys in the pits, Nate, Tim, Matt and my Dad." Then it was time for Strand to jump back in the No. 71 Walhalla Building Center Inc. / Keewatin Truck Service Millenium SRT Late Model for 20 more green flag laps. Starting ninth, Strand had moved into the top five just past the halfway point, and began to chase down the leaders. Strand moved from fourth to second in the final circuits, but fell just short of his second win of the night. On Saturday, it was the Late Model only, as Strand followed the NLRA series to Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN. Another poor draw saw Strand buried in the back of his heat race where he finished seventh. Rolling off 20th in the 23 car field for the 25 lap main event, Strand only had seven minutes to make up any ground as the race went pretty much mistake free. Strand ended the race as the hard charger with a ninth place run, passing eleven cars. Strand completed his weekend with a trip to Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, ND on Memorial Day Monday. Strand won his heat from the front row, and scored another second place finish in the feature. Strand is yet to finish worse than second in races he's able to finish in the WISSOTA Modified division this season. Next up, Strand will be in action at River Cities with the NLRA Late Models as they co-headline the night with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 25, 2023) - Coming off a pair of runner-up performances in consecutive weeks, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Bemidji Welders Supply / Novacek Honey Farms Mullens by Millenium, was in contention for his first victory of the season, but ended the night with a DNF.
Strand and crew brought their Mullens by Millenium Modified back out after a runner-up finish two weeks prior at I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for the season opener at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND.
Starting third in his heat race, and finishing second, Strand went on to roll off on the outside of the front row in the 20 lap main event. Strand took the lead after a great door-to-door battle with Tyler Peterson throughout the first half of the race. Approaching lapped traffic, Strand dipped the right rear tire off the edge of the banking, causing him to slide off the track, ending his hopes of a strong finish. Strand will have a shot at redemption this Friday night as the Modifieds are back in action at the Bullring. He will be pulling double duty as the Late Models make their season debut tomorrow night as well. On Saturday, Strand will head to Greenbush Race Park as the NLRA schedule continues. Strand enters Saturday’s event sitting second in the points, just 10 markers behind leader Brody Troftgruben. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! Walhalla Building Center Inc. Strand set to debut Mullens by Millenium Modified at River Cities
5/18/2023
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 18, 2023) - Coming off a runner-up appearance with the Modified a week prior, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Carr's Grain Service / Keewatin Truck Service Millenium SRT, continued his strong start to the 2023 season with a runner-up finish with the Northern Late Model Racing Association at Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. Tonight, he will pilot his Mullens by Millenium WISSOTA Modified at his home track, River Cities Speedway, for the first time.
Breaking out the Late Model for the first time this season last Saturday, Strand started the night winning the first heat race. Heading into the main event starting third, Strand had a good chance at scoring his fifth series win at the track.
Strand made his way to second on the seventh lap, and held the spot until five laps were remaining. At that point, Strand caught leader Brody Troftgruben in heavy lapped traffic and took the lead on lap 21.
The second and final caution with three laps left gave Strand one last chance at the victory. While holding off two-time and defending series champion Mike Greseth, Strand was unable to regain the top spot, finishing second.
This Friday, Strand will move back over to the Mullens by Millenium Modified during the season opener at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. With last week's rainout, Strand is still two wins away from his 100th win at the track in his career, seven of which are Modified victories.

East Grand Forks, Minn. (May 10, 2023) – Following a couple USMTS appearances in Iowa last month, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating / Walhalla Building Center Mullens by Millenium Modified, kicked off the local schedule last Friday night at I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN.
Strand, who is campaigning a Mullens Racing Chassis Modified by Millenium this season, started his night with a heat race victory by over a second and a half.
Lining up on the outside of the front row for the 20 lap main event, Strand remained a close second to Lee Grosz through the first half of the race. With five laps remaining, Strand and Grosz battled door-to-door, with Strand running the bottom of the three-eighths mile oval. Strand led lap 15, but Grosz was able to regain the lead in lapped traffic to pick up the win. This week, Strand will break out the Late Model for the first time this season during Friday's season opener at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. A 43-time feature winner in the class at the speedway, Strand is two wins away from his 100th at the track in his career, which includes wins in Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods, and Modifieds The team will head west on Saturday night, to Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND for the Northern Late Model Racing Association season opener. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 7, 2022) – It’s one of the biggest Wissota Late Model events of the year, drawing the biggest names and the best talent to Grand Forks from across the upper Midwest. It’s the John Seitz Memorial and it’s happening this weekend at River Cities Speedway.
Dustin Strand will not only be one of the top local favorites, but one of the top overall contenders heading into the weekend.
Strand is coming off a strong month of August in his Late Model that included two feature wins - one each at Greenbush Race Park and River Cities Speedway - and a runner-up finish at River Cities. That speed carried into last Friday’s event at River Cities, where Strand was a player for the lead and the win. Starting seventh for the 20-lapper, Strand had his work cut out to get his way to the front. The driver of the Keewatin Truck Service / Doubles Deuce Bar & Grill No. 71 took advantage of an early race caution to work his way into the top five. As the race resumed, Strand got by Brody Troftgruben before flying by track championship contenders Joey Pederson and Brad Seng to take over second. From there, Strand set his sights on leader Lance Schill. Strand quickly caught Schill and was setting up to pass the No. 17 running his patented high line when the right rear tire dipped off the edge of the track. That forced the car to slide exiting the corner where the turn four wall quickly approached. Strand made heavy contact with the wall, causing significant damage to what appeared to be the fastest car on the track. Strand limped the car back to the pits as his night was over. The Millenium Chassis / SRT Specialties crew has the car fixed up and ready to go for Thursday’s Prelude to the Johnny and NLRA season championship event. Strand will also be competing in his Wissota Modified during the Seitz Memorial on Thursday and Friday, tentatively. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 30, 2022) – Three more nights of racing is on tap for Dustin Strand this Labor Day weekend with a regular Friday night stop at River Cities Speedway and two nights at Greenbush Race Park with the NLRA Late Models on Saturday and Sunday.
That comes on the heels of a pair of Late Model shows last weekend at River Cities on Friday and Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo on Saturday. Strand used Friday night as as a test session to try some new things setup-wise. Admittedly, the test didn’t work out as expected and Strand pulled off the track early in the feature, being credited with a 17th place finish. Rain overnight Friday into Saturday created a fast and narrow track on Saturday at Red River Valley for the NLRA tour date. Strand advanced three positions in his heat, but during the feature, while running 7th, the engine began to run warmer than desired on the wide open track so he decided to pull off to save equipment. He was credited with 19th. Looking back, Strand had a solid month at his home track. Excluding last Friday’s feature, Strand’s worst finish in the month of August at River Cities was a fourth place finish. During that stretch, he also picked up a win on August 12th and a runner-up finish on August 19th. He also has enjoyed success at Greenbush Race Park. Strand has three career NLRA victories at Greenbush, including earlier this year on August 6th when he swept both the Late Model and Modified features. If you can't make it to the track, Friday's races will be broadcast live on RiverCitiesSpeedway.TV. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! Walhalla Building Center Inc. Strand gears up for big NLRA weekend
8/25/2022
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 25, 2022) – Another big weekend of Late Model racing lies ahead for Dustin Strand as the NLRA Late Models will co-headline two nights of action with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
Up first will be Friday night’s event at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, followed by the NLRA’s lone trip of the season to the three-eighths mile oval of Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo.
Strand has three career victories at Red River Valley Speedway. Two came in the Late Model on July 17, 2016 and August 25, 2012 and one in the Modified on August 4th, 2010.
Since the track was re-opened in 2016, Strand hasn’t finished outside of the top five in Late Model action at Red River Valley - a span that covers four starts. Most recently, he finished fourth in the NLRA feature last year.
Strand will be looking to continue the momentum of a strong weekend last weekend.
On Friday night, Strand led laps during the Late Model feature and bought the Millenium SRT No. 71 home in second. After started on the outside of row two, Strand quickly found himself up front and battling Tom Corcoran for the lead.
Strand charged past the Late Model veteran to take the point on lap two. He would then lead the next six circuits before Aaron Turnbull snuck by to take the lead.
Strand did not fade back, however, as he kept heavy pressure on Turnbull all race long. Around the midway point, it became a three-car race for the lead as Shane Edginton entered the fray. At the checkers, Strand came home second to record his 13th overall top five finish of the season.
Big money was up for grabs the following night at Devils Lake Speedway for the Golden Hammer Classic.
Strand started 14th on the grid for the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. Unfortunately, he suffered right front suspension damage early, but was still able to move forward. He worked his way into the top five, nearly cracking a podium position, but was shuffled back after a few late race cautions to finish seventh.
If you can’t make it to the track this weekend, both events from River Cities and Red River Valley Speedway will be live on DirtVision.com.

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 17, 2022) – Dustin Strand is on a roll right now. No matter the car or track, Strand is a threat to win every night. That was the case again on Friday night at River Cities Speedway as the driver of the Millenium SRT No. 71 Late Model collected his third consecutive win.
That stretch includes a pair of Late Model victories - one at River Cities Speedway and one at Greenbush Race Park - and one Modified win at Greenbush. Strand took advantage of an early-race caution during Friday night's feature to take the lead on lap four. Strand executed a power move on the low side of the speedway to get by Brandon Fuller for the race lead. From there, Strand had his hands full with fellow Team Millenium pilots Brody Troftgruben and Jason Strand. Strand bobbled on the cushion on lap 13 which was all Jason Strand needed to take the point down the backstretch. Jason came around to lead the lap, but Dustin found his groove on the cushion again and powered around to retake the lead. Dustin was flawless in lapped traffic in the closing laps as he cruised to the win - his sixth of the season overall. “I wanted to get to the top right away, but the bottom was pretty good at the beginning,” said an excited Strand in victory lane. “Brandon (Fuller) was doing pretty good there early on. He just left me half of a lane on the bottom for me to sneak by." After a string of bad luck, Strand has got the ship righted for some big NLRA shows upcoming and the annual John Seitz Memorial in September. “The car has been working awesome as long as the driver can hang on to the steering wheel. We really couldn’t do it without all of the great people that help us out,” said Strand. This weekend, Strand will be back at River Cities Speedway on Friday night before the $5,000-to-win Golden Hammer Classic at Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 10, 2022) – Dustin Strand returned to victory lane last weekend at Greenbush Race Park…. Twice! Strand won both the Modified and Late Model features to put him at five total wins in 2022.
Strand’s weekend began on Friday night at River Cities Speedway where he also pulled double duty in his Millenium SRT Modified and Late Model. Strand put on a strong drive during the Modified feature, advancing from 12th to 4th. After picking up four positions in the first two laps, the charge to the front became a methodical task for Strand. The East Grand Forks driver picked up a position about every three laps throughout the remainder of the race, moving into fifth late in the going before taking over the fourth position with four to go. The run through the field made Strand the race’s hard charger. Unfortunately, the night was brought to an end early in the Late Model as a mechanical failure forced him back to the pits before the conclusion of the 20-lapper. Strand was a heat race win away from being perfect on the night on Saturday at Greenbush. He began the night by driving from fifth to win his Modified heat and driving from fifth to second in the NLRA Late Model heat. Strand drew the outside of the front row for the Modified feature and the pole for the NLRA main event. He absolutely dominated feature action leading every lap of both features to score two checkered flags on the night. Strand now has tallied four Late Model wins this season and one Modified. He’ll look to keep the momentum going this week as he returns to River Cities Speedway in the Late Model on Friday. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 27, 2022) – After a three-night stretch of Modified racing last weekend, Dustin Strand will be hopping back in the Millenium SRT No. 71 Late Model this Thursday and Friday night.
Thursday’s event at Norman County Raceway will be an NLRA tour event. Strand has four career NLRA victories at the three-eighths mile oval in Ada, Minn. The first win came in 2012, along with a pair of wins in 2020. Strand is the defending race winner has he picked up the NLRA win last year as well.
Strand will also be in action on Friday night at his home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The East Grand Forks, Minn. driver will be looking for a strong finish after coming home seventh in the Late Model feature last week. Strand also had his Modified entered last Friday with the Advantage RV Modified Tour. Unfortunately, his night in the Modified was abbreviated as tricky track conditions in the heat race led to heavy contact with another car. The damage on the Walhalla Building Center / Carr’s Grain Service machine was too significant to get it fixed up for the feature. The highlight of Strand’s week came last Thursday night at Norman County with the Advantage RV Modified Tour. Strand rode the thick cushion to perfection in his heat race to pick up a convincing win. Starting sixth on the grid for the 32-lap feature, Strand found his groove in the fifth position for much of the race. An exciting late race restart bunched the field back up with seven to go and Strand took advantage. Strand moved by Blake Jegtvig and Lee Grosz to take over third. Strand went on to round out the podium at the checkers. Both Thursday's and Friday's races will start at 7:00pm. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 19, 2022) – After a solo event last weekend, Dustin Strand is ready for a big weekend of action in both his Millenium SRT Late Model and Modified. The action will kick off on Thursday at Norman County Raceway as the Advantage RV Modified Tour heads to the Ada, Minnesota three-eighths mile. Strand was scheduled to run his Late Model at Norman County last week, but afternoon rain showers canceled the event.
On Friday, Strand will be pulling double duty as the Advantage RV Modified Tour heads north to River Cities Speedway. Friday will also be an NLRA Late Model points event. Racing will continue Saturday for the No. 71 team, however the track is to be determined. Both NLRA special at Devils Lakes Speedway and the Advantage RV Modified Tour date at Greenbush Race Park are on the table. Last year’s RV Mod Tour event at Norman County was one to forget as Strand got upside down in a big way during heat race action. The 2020 edition of the event went much better as the East Grand Forks driver ran second to Dan Ebert in what was a stacked 21-car field. Since 2019, Strand has four Modified feature wins at his home track, River Cities Speedway, backed by a pair of runner-up finishes. Coming into this weekend’s action, Strand has three runner-up finishes in Modified competition in seven starts. All three of those second-place runs have come at Greenbush Race Park. Last week, Strand was in action with the World of Outlaws Late Models at River Cities. After timing in 12th quick in Group B and a sixth place run in his heat, Strand was forced to scratch from the event early with engine troubles. Despite those issues last Friday, Strand is still riding momentum from a strong weekend of action July 8th and 9th. Strand picked up second place finishes in both of his cars; Friday night at River Cities Speedway in the Late Model and Saturday at Greenbush Race Park in the Modified. Strand started seventh on the grid for the 20-lap Late Model feature at River Cities and was able to slice his way through the field during the first half of the race. The driver of the Walhalla Building Center Inc. No. 71 moved into a podium position on lap 11 before moving past Tom Corcoran for the second spot. Strand’s runner-up finish in the Modified at Greenbush came after a heat race win and starting fifth on the grid for the feature. Thanks to all of our great sponsors who help get us here! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 28, 2022) – Dustin Strand picked up a pair of NLRA Late Model wins over the weekend, sweeping NLRA action. Those wins came at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. on Thursday night and Sunday evening at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.
The wins propelled Strand past John Seitz and Mike Balcaen on the NLRA all-time wins list to put him in sole possession of second place with 27 career NLRA wins. Strand started on the front row of the feature on Thursday night in Ada and led the field to the green with the Norman County Fair as the backdrop off of turn four. Strand led all 25 trips around the three-eighths mile, but had to fend off heavy pressure from defending series champion Mike Greseth. Greseth looked to sneak around Strand several times in the final laps, but Strand was able to hold him off to claim his fourth career NLRA win at Norman County. After both NLRA events at I-94 Sure Step Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. and Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D. were rained out, the weekend concluded with a Sunday special at River Cities to close out the Greater Grand Forks Fair. Strand started seventh for the 25-lap feature and became a player for the win with around five to go. Taking advantage of a restart, Strand moved from fifth to second on lap 19 before setting his sights on Lance Schill for the lead. Schill pushed exiting turn four coming to five to go, which allowed Strand to fly by the No. 17 on the front stretch and take the lead. Just like on Thursday, a hard charging Greseth challenged Strand for the lead late, but Strand was able to hold him off to score the hometown win. “I kept getting stuck on the bottom groove early on and that line was ok, but the top side was really fast. A few guys were having pushing issues but my car was really good. It was a fun race,” said an excited Strand in victory lane. Strand will return to the Bullring on Friday night for a weekly Late Model show before heading to Greenbush (MN) Race Park on Saturday to complete the three-peat with the NLRA. GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 14, 2022) – Dustin Strand put a tally in the win column on Friday at River Cities Speedway as he powered his Millenium SRT No. 71 to a dominating win during the 20-lap Late Model feature.
Lining up third for the start of the main event, Strand quickly moved into second before setting his sites on Jesse Teunis for the lead. Strand patiently waited for Teunis to make a small mistake and that’s exactly what happened exiting turn four at the completion of lap four.
Strand shot into the lead to pace the 24-car field and never looked back. Near the midway point of the race, Lance Schill moved into the second spot and tried to make a run at Strand, but Strand was just too strong as he cruised to the win. The Strand Racing team brought both the Late Model and Modified east to Greenbush Race Park on Saturday. The East Grand Forks driver put on a show in the Modified feature, starting seventh and working his way into a podium position by race’s end. In a slim but stout field, Strand cracked the top five by lap two before moving into third on lap 15 with five to go. From there, he moved by Rick Delaine to take over the second position in the closing laps. Strand started the 25-lap NLRA feature in the ninth position and took the checkers in sixth. GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 17, 2021) – Dustin Strand headed into the 15th annual John Seitz Memorial weekend looking to put previous run-ins with bad luck behind him at the event he described as his “kryptonite.” Strand’s weekend got off to a great start, as he won his heat race Thursday night during the ‘Prelude to the Johnny,’ which serves as the NLRA Late Model series’ season finale. Strand redrew the third starting spot for the 25 lap main event, running in a podium spot through the first ten laps. With ten laps remaining, Strand slipped back to as low as sixth in the running order, but a late race comeback saw Strand finish the night with a podium finish with a third place run. Friday night kicked off Strand’s quest for what he views as the next race he really wants to win – The John Seitz Memorial. Strand has been plagued by mechanical woes and wrecks in recent editions of the event, but this year, a poor draw for the heat race was the next hurdle to climb. Strand started seventh in his 15 lap qualifying heat race, but stormed to fourth at the conclusion of the opening lap. Another pass in turn one on lap two saw Strand improve to third in the order. Strand restarted second following a lap six caution, but went on to win the race. This earned him more than enough points to make the ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ pole dash, where he finished eighth. Rolling off eighth in the 92-lap, $9,200-to-win main event on Saturday night, Strand ran in and around the top ten until the lap 32 fuel stop. Restarting 12th following the stoppage, the race went 60 laps caution free, with Strand finishing 13th. Strand and the 71 team will take the weekend off, before a possible conclusion of their season at the Stock Car Stampede at Jamestown Speedway next weekend. GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 8, 2021) – The best Late Model drivers in WISSOTA country will invade Grand Forks this weekend as big money will be up for grabs during the 15th running of the John Seitz Memorial. Every driver wants to be on top of their game when the big events roll around and no driver has more momentum on their side than Dustin Strand. Strand picked up a convincing feature win last Friday night at River Cities Speedway as he swept the night. Strand started on the pole for the 20-lap main event, but fell back to third early on behind Joey Pederson and Shane Edginton. In the second half of the race, Strand found his groove and made a charge to the front. With eight to go, Strand made a power move around the outside of Pederson to regain the lead. A caution reset the field with five to go, but Strand drove away from Brad Seng and Pederson as the green flag flew. Strand went on to score the win by over two seconds over Seng. “This car has been badass. We got behind the eight-ball earlier this season and finally went back to ground zero and we’ve got a hot rod now,” said an excited Strand in victory lane. “I’m pretty excited for the Seitz Memorial coming up. The car is awesome.” Bad luck has plagued Strand at the Seitz Memorial in recent years, but the Millenium SRT No. 71 team has shown they have winning speed at the Bullring all season long. The John Seitz Memorial kicks off Thursday with the NLRA season championship. Qualifying for Saturday’s $9,200-to-win main event starts Friday with heat races and the Go Hard or Go Home Pole Dash. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 26, 2021) – Following a win at River Cities one week prior, Dustin Strand scored another top five in NLRA Late Model series action in the No. 71 Keewatin Truck Service / Generations Salon Millenium SRT last Saturday night at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. Strand was cruising to a heat race win on Saturday night at Red River Valley until a driveshaft failure on the final corner forced him to coast to the checkers. The fourth place finish buried Strand deep in the field for the 25 lap main event, as he was slated to roll off 15th. It took Strand just four laps to climb into the top ten, and remained in and around the top ten through the midway point. Strand continued to charge through the field with ten laps remaining. As the final twenty laps went caution free, Strand’s charge was unaided by slow downs for cautions. Strand was running sixth with five laps left, but passed Cole Schill and Ben Wolden before the checkered flag, finishing in the fourth position. Strand won the series’ hard charger award for the 11 cars he passed during the race. Strand was also in action on Wednesday night at River Cities Speedway, where he kicked off his night with a heat win. Strand started the race in the third position, and was running solidly inside the top five in the first half of the 25 lapper. Strand was in a three car battle for the second spot at the midway point, when contact ended his night early. Strand will return to River Cities on tonight for another night of weekly Late Model competition. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 4, 2021) – A rough month of July is now in the books for Dustin Strand and the SRT Specialties team, which included a horrific rollover at Norman County Raceway in his Modified, and two DNF’s with his Late Model at Norman County and River Cities Speedway. Strand had planned on running the entire four race stretch two weeks ago with the Advantage RV Wissota Modified Tour, but a rollover in his heat race at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN ended his week early. Strand was sore for a few days, but was uninjured. Strand returned to action last Thursday at Norman County with the NLRA Late Models where he started his night with a third place finish in his heat race. Strand rolled off ninth in the main event, but was caught up in another pileup, ending his race. The team regrouped for another night of weekly competition in the Late Model division at River Cities, kicking off the night with a heat win. Strand was running in the top five in the first two trips around the quarter-mile Bullring, but another pileup on the backstretch on lap three ended his night early for the third consecutive race. Strand drove Ronnie Novacek’s No. B1 Millenium SRT Midwest Mod at Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night for the Golden Hammer Classic. Strand ran a pair of heat races, finishing with a win and a runner-up, which was good enough to place him on the pole of the main event. Strand led the opening ten circuits around the third-mile Devils Lake speedplant, utilizing the top of the speedway. Following a caution on lap 11, Strand moved to the bottom in an attempt to hold off Lucas Rodin. Strand lost the lead just before the midway point of the 40 lap feature, but continued to run second after another caution with fifteen laps left. Strand was chased on the restart by three more cars he built, as Preston Carr, Eric Haugland, and Nate Reynolds challenged for the runner-up spot. Four cautions in the final 11 laps allowed Carr to take second while another pair of Millenium Chassis driven by Jory Berg and Reise Stenberg completed the top five as Strand finished third behind Carr. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 22, 2021) – After a quick break in the schedule last weekend, Dustin Strand will take the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT Modified to four races in four nights this weekend with the Advantage RV Mod Tour.
Strand has raced eight times in the Modified during the 2021 season with wins at Arizona Speedway in January during the Wild West Shootout, and another in May at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.
On that night in May, Strand also won the Late Model feature, and he’ll take the opportunity to double up again this Friday night as he’ll run both cars once again. Friday night is also an NLRA tour event at River Cities. The defending series champion will continue his pursuit of a fifth series championship. The week kicks off Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN where Strand won the 2010 points title in the WISSOTA Modified division. On Saturday night, Strand will head up to Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN where Strand won three Modified features during the 2020 season. The final night of action will be on Sunday night at Bemidji Speedway in Bemidji, MN and will serve as a bit of a homecoming for Strand, as the family called Bemidji home for many years. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 14, 2021) – As the season reaches the midway point, Dustin Strand put two more Late Model races in the books last week, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. 71 during the NLRA portion of the Wayne Anderson Cup at the River Cities Speedway. Back-to-back nights of Late Model action were on the card for Strand last week, as he started his week Thursday night at River Cities with a heat race win. Strand redrew the third starting spot for the 25 lap main event.
Strand spent most of the race bouncing between fourth and fifth, using the low side of the quarter-mile Bullring, battling fellow NLRA title contenders Brad Seng and Shane Edginton. Strand abandoned the low line after a lap 10 yellow, while he continued to run between fourth and fifth. After a restart with eight to go, Strand rocketed past Seng on the top side to move onto the podium. He then executed perfect slider on Edginton with four to go to take second. Strand reeled in Mike Greseth for the lead, but ran out of time, finishing in the second spot. Strand returned to River Cities for weekly competition Friday night, and started out with a heat win from the fifth starting spot. Starting ninth in the main event, Strand remained inside the top 10, running 10th through the first half of the 20-lap main event. In the final five laps of the race, Strand used the middle of the track to make a pair of passes to finish seventh. Tonight, Strand will hop back behind the wheel of his Millenium SRT Modified to compete with the USMTS Modifieds at Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD. In his last visit to Casino Speedway in 2020, Strand recorded a third place finish in WISSOTA Modified action. On Friday, Strand will continue his pursuit of another River Cities track title, as he’ll head into this week's event 14 points back of the top spot. East Grand Forks, Minn. (July 6, 2021) – A rare Thursday night program at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks precedes weekly Friday night racing this week. Thursday’s Wayne Anderson Cup special for the NOSA Sprints will also highlight the Northern Late Model Racing Association. Friday’s program will be weekly WISSOTA Late Model competition at the Bullring. Dustin Strand looked poised to capture his fifth overall win of 2021 last Friday night at River Cities. After a heat race win, Strand started on the pole for the 20-lap Late Model feature and grabbed the lead over Shane Edginton on lap one. Running the extreme inside groove all the way around the quarter-mile oval, Strand held a slim, yet steady lead in the early stages. A caution on lap six reset the field. Strand continued to lead as the race resumed but exiting turn four, Strand was hit in the right rear quarter panel. The contact forced Strand to spin and the field stacked up behind him. The call for the caution did not go in Strand’s favor and he was sent to the tail of the field for the restart. Strand worked his way back up the running order to salvage a ninth place finish. Despite finishing ninth last week, Strand still leads the River Cities Speedway Late Model points. He holds a slim four point lead over Edginton. Thursday will be the lone event of the weekend for the NLRA. Strand, a four-time series champion, currently sits fifth in the NLRA standings, 74 points out of the lead. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 30, 2021) – Two out of the three races for the NLRA Late Models were completed last week, as Dustin Strand and the 71 team scored a pair of top tens, including a top five at Devils Lake Speedway. Strand’s week started last Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN for the annual NLRA show during the Norman County Fair. Strand won his heat race from the third starting spot, putting him in a spot in the NLRA redraw. Strand drew the six pill, and started on the outside of the third row in the 25 lap main event. Strand raced into the top five at the drop of the green and stayed there through the first dozen laps before a caution on lap 13. Strand lost a spot on the restart, but remained within striking distance throughout the last half of the race, finishing seventh. On Saturday, Strand returned to Devils Lake Speedway and finished 3rd in his heat race after starting 5th, earning him a 10th place starting spot in what would prove to be the final main event of the weekend with the rainout at River Cities the following night. Strand wasted no time moving forward, as he was already inside the top five with five laps completed. Strand moved up to fourth on a lap six restart, utilizing the top side of the tricky third-mile oval. Strand remained fourth through a pair of cautions with 13 and 11 laps remaining, respectively, and continued on to a fourth place finish. Despite two solid runs, Strand summarized his week as “so so”. “I maybe misread the track on Thursday in Ada. It changed more than I thought it would in the feature. Devils Lake got rain the night before and just before the races. Overall, it was a good weekend.” Strand will race once this weekend, as he’ll return to weekly competition at the River Cities Speedway on Friday, which was rained out last Sunday. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 22, 2021) – Dustin Strand raced just once last week, and nearly picked up another feature win as he scored a runner-up finish on Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Strand started his night last Friday at River Cities with a third place run in his heat race, after starting fifth. This earned Strand the eighth starting spot for the 20 lap main event.
Strand started moving forward from the drop of the green, improving into the top five by the completion of the third trip around the Bullring.
Strand continued his march forward, taking the runner-up spot on lap number eight, where he remained for the duration of the race, though he was close to taking the lead multiple times in lapped traffic. Strand chased down race-long leader Brandon Fuller in traffic shortly after the halfway point. The driver of the Carr’s Grain Service / Naastad Acres No. 71 continued to shadow Fuller for the lead until the final caution with two laps to go. On the restart, Strand slid Fuller to momentarily take the lead, but just as he did, third-place runner Joey Pederson snuck underneath both him and Fuller. Strand gave chase to Pederson on the final lap, but took the checkers in second. Strand commented on his chances at the victory post-race saying, “Fuller was doing a really good job and I knew he was going to have to screw up for me to get by him. After that last yellow, I went in and hooked a rut wrong, and Joey snuck by both of us. You never know on those late race restarts. For a split minute there I thought we were gonna get it done, but we had to settle for second.” Strand and the 71 crew will switch their focus to a three-race NLRA weekend starting Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. The series will continue on to the Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night, before ending the weekend on Sunday at River Cities during the Greater Grand Forks Fair. “I really enjoy racing Ada,” Strand said about the weekend. “We haven’t had as much of a chance to race there over the last few years, but I’m really excited to run there. We’re looking forward to getting back to Devils Lake too, because we always have a lot of family and friends out that way, and it’s fairly close to home.” The four-time and defending NLRA series champion sits fifth in the standing heading into the weekend, but Strand isn’t worried about the points battle. “We’ll see how the cards stack up at the end of the year,” he said. “We had a few bad nights that put us behind the eight-ball at the beginning of the year. We’re not too wound up in the points deal right now, so we’ll see how things go.” Dustin and the entire Strand Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support! Two races, two podiums for Strand

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 15, 2021) – Dustin Strand picked up a pair of podium finishes last weekend, highlighted by a runner-up finish with the NLRA Late Models at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday night.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 15, 2021) – Dustin Strand picked up a pair of podium finishes last weekend, highlighted by a runner-up finish with the NLRA Late Models at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday night.
Action kicked off at Strand’s home track at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday with a strong field of 21 cars checked in.
After racing from seventh to third in his heat, Strand rolled off eighth on the grid for the main event.
Early on, Strand got caught up in an incident not of his doing, causing damage to the left front. Strand was forced to the workarea to get the cosmetic damage removed and restarted at the tail of the field.
Restarting 14th, Strand worked his way into the top-10 in just two laps before cracking into the top-five on lap 15 of 20.
The driver of the Millenium SRT No. 71 moved by two more cars in the closing laps to finish third at the checkers.
“It was eventful to say the least,” said Strand of the main event. “I was kind of hoping for one more yellow at the end, but it was pretty awesome to pass all those cars.”
On Saturday, the NLRA season continued with a trip to Greenbush Race Park.
Strand started the night by picking up a heat race win. He started fifth for the 25-lapper.
“I got into the lead around lap five and it turned out to be a one-lane track right around the bottom,” said Strand of the feature race. “There was one traction strip right around the bottom. We got into lapped cars and I should have stayed on the bottom, but I moved up a lane to try to go around a guy and Mike (Greseth) snuck underneath me. He was a little better than me at the end of the race… I was too tight to stay down in the traction. All in all, it was a good night.”
Racing continues Friday night for Strand at River Cities Speedway. Green flag drops at 7:00pm.
Dustin and the entire Strand Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support!

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 8, 2021) – Dustin Strand raced to his second Late Model feature win of the 2021 season on Saturday night at I-94 Sure Step Speedway’s King of Dirt event. Strand topped a stout field of 26 entries and led all 30 trips around the three-eighths mile oval en route to the win. “I knew with (Dave) Mass starting right behind me, at some point I would have to get right up against that wall,” said Strand. “We don’t really race on any track similar to that so that was a little bit nerve racking, but by lap five we had it up against the wall. The car was driving awesome. We had some lapped cars to deal with but (the car) would maneuver wherever we had to put it. It was an awesome race.” After starting seventh in his heat to start the night, Strand charged his way forward to finish second and earn a spot in the redraw for the feature. The four-time and defending NLRA series champion redrew the number one pill putting him on the pole for the main event. Mass remained within striking distance for the majority of the feature, but Strand found his stride late in the race and pulled away. In the final 10 laps, Strand increased his advantage from eight tenths of a second to over 3.5 seconds at the checkers. The win was Strand’s 25th with the NLRA, putting him one win behind John Seitz and Mike Balcaen for second on the all-time wins list. On Sunday, the series made the trip to Buffalo River Speedway for the first time in six years. Strand was the most recent winner at the speedway with his win over Donny Schatz in 2015. Strand was poised for a solid top-10 run late in the race, but on the last lap Strand lost fuel pressure when the hex drive broke off the pump. Strand's race ended a half-lap early, putting him back to 16th in the final results. Friday night’s NLRA show at River Cities Speedway was canceled due to rain after the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars completed time trials. This weekend, Strand will be back at it on Friday night at River Cities. The NLRA tour resumes on Saturday at Greenbush Race Park. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 2, 2021) - Dustin Strand continued his title defenses last weekend as he ran with the NLRA at Grand Rapids Speedway, then returned to River Cities Speedway on Friday night, scoring a top-10 run.
On Thursday, Strand followed the NLRA to Grand Rapids Speedway in Grand Rapids, MN, as the series visited the track for the first time since 2010.
Dustin finished fifth in his heat race, setting him up with the 17th starting spot for the 25-lap main event. Strand made steady progress through the field throughout the race, finishing in the 12th spot. "It was fun to go over there," Strand said about his night at Grand Rapids. "I put us behind the 8-ball in the heat race. I misjudged what we were gonna have, and that put us pretty deep in the feature." Returning home for another Friday night at River Cities, Strand charged from sixth to second in his heat race, giving him the ninth starting spot for the 20-lap main event. Strand improved to eighth on the opening lap, and climbed up to seventh on lap 14, where he ended the race. Dustin Strand kept his top-10 streak at River Cities alive, as he finished seventh in the Late Model feature. He'll head into this week's race as the point leader by three points. Strand has three nights with the NLRA Late Models on tap this weekend starting on Friday night at River Cities Speedway as the NLRA co-headlines with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, then he and the 71 crew will head to I-94 Speedway for the Dick Johanneck Memorial on Saturday night. The weekend concludes on Sunday at Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, MN, as the series returns to the quarter-mile for the first time in six years, where Strand will return as the most recent NLRA winner at the speedway. "It's always a big crowd, [at River Cities WoO] so it's usually a lot of fun. [Glyndon] should be fun. It's always tight quarters on that little track, but it should be a lot of fun." EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 26, 2021) - Dustin Strand made his way to the I-94 Sure Step Speedway last Friday night for the first time in nearly three years, collecting a top 10, as the defending NLRA series champion started his title defense.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 26, 2021) - Dustin Strand made his way to the I-94 Sure Step Speedway last Friday night for the first time in nearly three years, collecting a top 10, as the defending NLRA series champion started his title defense.
Strand started his night at the I-94 Speedway with a heat win from the outside of the front row, earning a spot in the NLRA re-draw.
Redrawing the sixth spot for the main event, Strand rolled out outside of the third row for the first NLRA 25-lap main event of the 2021 campaign.
Strand ran eighth through the first caution with three laps completed. During the following seven lap green flag segment, Strand briefly fell outside the top 10, but restarted ninth with 15 laps to go.
Strand used the top side of the tricky three-eights mile oval to move back up to seventh, re-starting eighth after another caution with 11 remaining.
After holding off Cole Schill and Brody Troftgruben at the beginning of the final green flag run of the race, Strand began a charge back towards the front of the field.
Strand used the low line to move past Shawn Kirwin, Chuck Swenson, and nearly took eighth at the fall of the checkered flag, finishing in the ninth position.
This week, the Strand Racing team will head back to the Grand Rapids Speedway in Grand Rapids, Minn. for the return of NLRA Late Model action at the speedway for the first time since 2010. Strand will then return to River Cities on Friday night, two weeks after winning both the Modified and Late Model features.
Dustin and the entire Strand Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support!

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 20, 2021) – Following a sweep of the Modified and Late Model features on Friday night at River Cities Speedway, Dustin Strand and the No. 71 team will load up and head to I-94 Sure Step Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn. on Friday night with the NLRA Late Models.
Strand’s most recent visit to I-94 Speedway came during the 2018 WISSOTA 100. There, he finished seventh in both his Late Model qualifying feature and the Saturday night main event. During Saturday’s feature, his seventh place finish came from the 20th starting position.
The NLRA Late Models haven’t been to I-94 Speedway since June 26, 2015. On that night, Strand picked up a fifth place finish from the 11th starting position. Last Friday night was another memorable one for Strand at his home track. Pulling double duty in the Modified and Late Model, Strand took the checkered flag in both features. Strand started on the pole for the 20-lap, 24-car WISSOTA Late Model feature and took the lead over Joey Pederson after the first set of corners. Strand went on to lead all 20 trips around the bullring, but Pederson remained within striking distance throughout the caution-free event. On the final lap, Strand was mired in heavy lapped traffic, allowing both Pederson and Mike Greseth to close in. Things got tight off turn four coming to the checkers, but Strand was able to hold on for the win. “The car was really good on the bottom. I kind of got tied up in lapped cars and I was watching my dad and he was telling me I had some room,” said Strand after the race. “On the last lap, I knew second was right there, but I figured he would have to pass me in the slick. After the checkered flag, I went up to the top and I actually should have tried that earlier. I think it might have been better up there. It definitely helps to start up front on a track like that but we’ll take it any day.” The WISSOTA Modifieds took the green flag with Joe Thomas showing the way. Behind him, Aaron Holtan, Tyler Peterson and Strand battled hard for the runner-up spot. After getting by Holtan, Peterson and Strand continued their torrid battle for second. Thomas had a comfortable lead until Peterson slipped off the top of the track to bring out the yellow. From there, Thomas had a hungry Strand nipping at his heels. Strand muscled around the outside of Thomas with seven laps to go to take the point before going on to claim the win. Strand capped off the weekend with a second place run in WISSOTA Midwest Modified action at Jamestown Speedway.
Dustin and the entire Strand Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support!

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 11, 2021) – Dustin Strand opened up his 2021 campaign last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., ending the night as the runner-up in the Late Model division.
Strand started sixth in his heat race and charged all the way up to the second spot by the end of the race.
The opening night redraw placed Strand in the sixth starting spot again in the main event. Strand was one of just two drivers in the top six to run the cushion early in the race, but abandoned the line to move past Shane Edginton on the fourth lap for the third position. A caution on lap six put Strand to the inside of Joey Pederson on the double file restart. Strand held off Edginton to remain third on the restart before another yellow flag a few circuits later. Strand remained third as Edginton and Pederson swapped second and fourth respectively, before the third caution at the midway point of the 20-lapper. Strand regained the runner-up spot on the restart, while also holding off Edginton on the fourth and final restart with nine to go. Strand remained within a car length of the win for the remainder of the race, finishing as the runner-up. "It went pretty good, " Strand said postrace. "We put together a new car for this season, and it's been really crazy busy at the shop, so we just finally got it lettered about three days before the race, and it worked really well." On his climb to the front, Strand said, "we had some pretty good runs going, but it seemed like on the longer runs, I could start gaining a little, but we had a yellow every six laps or so, or right when we were catching lapped cars. I was hoping we'd get a longer green flag run and get into lapped cars, cause I could maneuver pretty good. I was searching around, trying to make the top work." Strand will return to River Cities this week with both the Late Model and the Modified for his first chance to pull 'double duty' for the 2021 season. SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (January 12, 2021) – A new racing season means a clean slate and the beginning of another long campaign and every driver wants to get a season started off on the right foot. Dustin Strand did just that in his first race of the 2021 season on Saturday night as he topped a 66-car field to win the A-Mod feature at the Wild West Shootout at Arizona Speedway.
A high pill draw to start the night was actually a welcomed sight for Strand as passing points were the name of the game.
“We drew 90 out of 100 which put us at the back of the heat race. That ended up being a good thing since it was a passing points deal. We were able to sneak up to second from the back row of the heat. I really think if we got a yellow, we could have placed a bid for the lead. Still, getting second put us on the front row for the feature,” he said. Rolling from the pole for the 25-lapper, Strand took the lead on the opening circuit. A batch of cautions kept four-time USMTS national champion, Rodney Sanders, and former USRA national champion, Lucas Schott, right on the heels of Strand. The East Grand Forks, Minn. driver proved he was the class of the field, however, as he powered away from the field every time the green flag flew. Strand encountered heavy lapped traffic in the closing laps, which allowed Schott to close in. Schott made a bid at the lead with two to go, but Strand was able to clear the traffic and hang on for the win. “It was pretty nerve-racking with the caliber of drivers I had behind me for 25 laps. The last three laps, we were in pretty heavy lapped traffic and Schott stuck his nose up next to me, but we were able to pull it off,” said Strand. “It’s definitely a confidence booster to get a win right off the bat and a great way to start the week. Our luck can change at any moment, but hopefully, we can’t keep the luck on our side for the rest of the week.” After a fifth-place run in Sunday’s feature, Strand currently leads the Modified point standings in the Wild West Shootout mini-series. He holds a three-point advantage over Shane Sabraski with four events remaining. “Honestly, we’re not really wrapped up in racing for points,” Strand admitted. “We’re just going to race hard and see how we stack up. It really is dependent on draw. Not so much on getting a starting spot up front, sometimes you’re better off starting towards the back, especially if you get an easier heat. That way you can get some passing points because that dictates your starting spot for the feature.” Racing continues Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Wild West Shootout. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 30, 2020) – The 2020 season concluded for Dustin Strand last weekend at the 49th annual Stock Car Stampede at Jamestown Speedway. A new twist was added to the prestigious event this season with Friday night being a complete show instead of the traditional night of qualifying heats.
Dustin started the night with a strong run in his heat to finish in second from the seventh starting position. That locked him into the main event.
The newly crowned NLRA series champion started fourth on the grid, but moved his way into the lead near the halfway point of the 25-lapper. “Friday went really good. I actually felt like I gave that one up,” said Strand. “We got the lead around lap 10 and led a good portion of the race. We got into heavy lapped cars and the track kind of rubbered up so it was kind of a one-laned deal. I felt like I was getting held up by the lapped cars and felt like I needed to make a move. When I tried it, I slipped up out of the rubber and (Ryan) Mikkelson snuck back by me. I guess I should have just stayed in line.” Strand was forced to follow Mikkelson to the checkered flag and finished in the second spot. Strand’s season concluded with 14 total wins including eight in the Late Model and six in the Modified. “We had a pretty awesome year, even with it being shortened,” said Strand of his 2020 season. “Both cars were really good all season. We were fortunate enough to put some good runs together.” It was another banner year for the East Grand Forks, Minn. driver. Strand earned his fourth NLRA series championship, his fifth River Cities Speedway Late Model track championship and the WISSOTA Late Model North Dakota State championship. “It’s really cool to win another NLRA championship. The first part of the year it was looking like none of the NLRA races were going to happen. Some of the early shows got canceled, then things really started clicking off. From June on it seemed like we got most of them in so it was a pretty good year.” In NLRA action, Strand tied Brad Seng for the most wins with the series this season at three. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 16, 2020) – It’s official - Dustin Strand is the 2020 NLRA champion. Strand claimed his fourth career NLRA Late Model series championship on Thursday night during the NLRA season finale at the Prelude to the Johnny at River Cities Speedway.
Coming into the night, Strand had to finish 10th or better to clinch the title. The driver of the Generations Salon / Bemidji Welders Supply No. 71 had no trouble doing that as he raced to a podium finish against 50 of the best Late Model teams in the upper Midwest.
“This year was obviously a little messed up with the shorter year. We only ran about half the races. But we race with a good group of guys and it’s an honor to win this deal,” said Strand after the race on Thursday. Starting seventh on the grid, Strand quickly worked his way into the top five by lap six of 25. In the closing laps, Strand battled with former John Seitz Memorial champion Chad Mahder and fellow NLRA competitor Joey Pederson for a podium position. Strand was able to secure the third position in the closing laps, which is where we took the checkers. In the final point standings Strand closed with a 112 point advantage over Brad Seng.
On Friday night, the 14th annual John Seitz Memorial commenced after a three-hour rain delay. Strand moved forward two positions during his 15-lap qualifying heat on a heavy and narrow racing surface. That was good enough to lock Strand into the 92-lap main event with a 13th-place starting position.
Strand took his time moving to the front as he cracked the top 10 on lap 57. Once inside the top 10, he quickly began picking off more positions. The East Grand Forks driver was racing for a position inside the top five when he made contact with the right rear quarter panel of Cole Schill. The contact sent Schill spinning. The caution was displayed and Strand was sent to the tail of the lead lap cars. On the restart, Strand began his trek to the front again. However, with 22 laps to go, he got over the edge of the banking in turn three, which caused the car to high-center on the crown of the embankment. That forced the No. 71 to roll off the track. Strand landed on all four wheels and was able to drive the car back to the trailer. Dustin was okay, but a promising night ended prematurely. The Strand Racing team will be taking this weekend off before heading to Jamestown Speedway for the 49th annual Stock Car Stampede. Strand is a three-time winner of the Stock Car Stampede with two victories in the Late Model and one in the Modified. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 9, 2020) - Arguably the biggest WISSOTA Late Model event of the year is set to kick off this weekend for the 14th time. The John Seitz Memorial begins this Thursday night, featuring the NLRA season championship, and continues through Saturday night with $9,200 going to the winner of the 92-lap feature.
Dustin Strand may be the odds on favorite to it this year. Strand just claimed the 2020 River Cities Speedway Late Model track championship last Friday night, while also collecting his division-leading fifth win of the season at the Bullring.
Strand has also been the man to beat with the NLRA as well. The East Grand Forks driver is tied for the most wins with the series, with one of those three wins coming right at River Cities Speedway. "We always kind of hope we can get it done every year, but the car has been rolling really good,” Strand said of what he thinks his chances are to claim his first career Seitz Memorial title. “The car has been bad fast. Hopefully we can carry some momentum into that deal.” Strand holds a 60 point lead atop the NLRA point standings entering Thursday night’s season finale. In order to claim his fourth series title in the last seven years, Strand will have to finish 10th or better in the main event. Last weekend, Strand raced to victory lane in both his Late Model and Millenium SRT No. 71 Modified. It began on Friday night where Strand started on the pole and picked up the Late Model win at River Cities. It was a hard-fought victory, however, as Strand had to battle with Brad Seng. Seng led early, but Strand grabbed the point on lap nine with a textbook slidejob in turn three. Seng remained within striking distance all race long and had a shot at taking the lead on a late-race restart. “We had a pretty fun track. It was fun racing with Brad (Seng),” said Strand after the race on Friday. “It got kind of hairy in lapped traffic, but everything worked out great. On that last restart, I knew the bottom was fast, but if you missed it you kind of got hung out in the middle. I just tried to stay down in the traction and tried to keep it going. I knew (Seng) would probably be rolling through the middle. He goes like a son of a gun where nobody else can.” Strand went on to pick up the win by just under a half second. On Saturday, Strand made the trek to Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minn. to compete in the Fallen Linemen Race at the big half-mile oval. After leading the race early from the second starting spot, Strand was passed by Dan Ebert. Ebert checked out, but Strand was able to make a late-race rally amid lapped traffic. Ebert got held up by traffic on the final lap, which allowed Strand to go to the top side. Strand rode the rim around Ebert to take the lead and go on to win the $3,000 payday. “At the midpoint of the race, I didn’t see the rubber come in and Danny (Ebert) found it and drove by us. I kind of thought he had it done, but we got into lapped cars at the end. It just played into my favor. Sometimes you’re in a better seat just watching what’s going on. We just snuck in there,” said Strand after the race recalling the final laps. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 2, 2020) - Dustin Strand picked up his 12th feature win of 2020 last Saturday night at Greenbush Race Park in his No. 71 Millenium WISSOTA Modified.
Following a charge from seventh to second in his heat, Strand lined up on the outside of the front row for the 20-lap feature with Mark Esala to his inside. Strand got the jump as the green flag waved and led the opening circuit.
Strand went on to lead every lap but had to hold off a hard-charging Mike Greseth in the final laps. The win was Strand’s fifth in the Modified this year. Strand also finished third in the Midwest Modified feature, driving Ronnie Novacek’s No. B1. The night before at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, Strand nearly claimed his third consecutive Late Model feature win. Strand started ninth on the grid for the 20-lap feature after charging from seventh to pick up a heat race win. The East Grand Forks driver raced his way into the top five by lap four and moved into second at the halfway point. From there, Strand set his sights on Lance Schill for the lead. Strand caught Schill with two laps to go amid heavy lapped traffic. Strand placed a bid for the lead in turns one and two on the final lap, but came up short and had to settle for second. Strand leads the River Cities Speedway Late Model points race by 10 markers over Brad Seng. This weekend, Strand returns to action on Friday night at River Cities in his Late Model. On Saturday, he will head to Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minn. with the Modified to compete in the Fallen Lineman special at the big half-mile. Strand last competed in a Modified at Viking in 2017 where he finished fifth and sixth in two separate events. In eight local events in the Modified this season, Strand has an average finish of 2.1. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 26, 2020) - It was a crucial weekend for the NLRA points race with three consecutive events on tap last weekend. Dustin Strand led the series points by just six markers over Brody Troftgruben entering the tripleheader and not only extended his lead, but picked up two wins by weekend’s end.
It all began on Thursday, August 20th at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. where Dustin scored his second win of the season. The driver of the Walhalla Building Center / Carr's Grain Service No. 71 led all 25 trips around the three-eighths mile oval, despite some pressure from Don Shaw in the closing laps, to score the season sweep at the speedway.
“We're actually running a concept motor, it's a new rule package Wissota offered, and it's a little less horsepower and torque, but it's a really awesome package when the track is slick. I didn't know if we were gonna be able to hang on tonight,” said Strand after the race, referring to the fast and tacky racing surface. “But the ol' girl was hitting on all eight.” “It feels great to win any time, but I really love racing at Ada. I wish we could run here more,” Strand concluded. The next night, the NLRA Late Models co-headlined the event with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. In one of the most thrilling finishes in recent memory at the Bullring, Strand stole the win from Lance Schill in the last corner of the last lap, coming to the checkered flag. "Before that last caution, I thought we had a pretty good run going,” said Strand, who started fifth on the grid for the 25-lapper. "Then the yellow came out, and I thought ‘that's just what we need.’ But [Lance] was doing a good job the whole race, and the lapped car kind of played into my favor coming to the checkered there. Sometimes it's better to be in the second place driver’s seat than to be leading, cause you can kind of see where they’re going and where the lapped cars are. I knew my only prayer was to go to the top, and the car stuck. It was pretty awesome. It was tight at the line."
Strand picked up the win by a matter of inches to claim his seventh Late Model win of the season and close to within one point of Brad Seng in the track point standings.
On Saturday night, the busy weekend concluded with a trip to Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, N.D. Unfortunately, Strand’s night only lasted four laps as heavy contact with the wall on the backstretch caused severe damage and brought his night to an end. This week, Strand will be back in action with the Late Model at River Cities Speedway. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 20, 2020) – After a disappointing end to a promising night at last Saturday’s NLRA event at Greenbush Race Park, Dustin Strand will be looking for a string of strong runs as the NLRA Late Models kick off a big three-race weekend tonight at Norman County Raceway. Dustin is the current series point leader and has a slim six-point margin over Brody Troftgruben.
Last Saturday night, Dustin looked to be in line for his second NLRA feature win of the 2020 season, but with 10 laps remaining, the left front suspension failed on the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT, ending his night early.
The crew re-grouped for a special Sunday night run with the Modified, and headed south to Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, N.D. After winning his heat, Dustin redrew the fifth starting spot for the main event. Utilizing the low side of the Ransom County quarter-mile oval, Dustin was running fourth through the first six circuits of the 25-lapper. On the 10th lap, Strand went three-wide with Brent Dutenhoffer and Tyler Peterson for the second spot, which he picked up by the completion of the lap. Strand made the move to the cushion shortly thereafter, and started chasing down Michael Greseth for the lead. In the waning laps, Dustin was able to hold off Dutenhoffer for second as the checkered flag flew. This week, Dustin will turn his focus back to the Late Model, as the NLRA series will race three times in three nights. The first night will be at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, where Dustin will return as the most recent winner. "I wish we could run here more often," Dustin said of Ada three-eighths mile oval. “It’s a fun track, we've raced a lot with the B-Mod and the A-Mod, and we used to love [going there] weekly with the A-mod." The mini-series continues on Friday night at River Cities, where Dustin is a six-time series winner, and has three wins in weekly competition in 2020. The series ends with a visit to Jamestown Speedway, where Dustin has two series wins in 2012 and 2015. EAST GRAND FORKS, MINN. (August 11, 2020) - It was a big weekend for the No. 71 team as Dustin Strand pulled double duty at his home track, River Cities Speedway. He picked up the win in the Modified and finished second with the Late Model. Thirteen WISSOTA Modifieds were checked in and ready to battle for 20 laps. Aaron Holtan was on the pole with Strand to his outside. Holtan jumped to the early lead and led lap one, but out of turn four on lap two Strand took the lead and never looked back, picking up his fourth Modified win of the season.
“This car is just an animal. Each and every time we’re on the track, it just runs awesome. I’ve got to thank my crew for that a lot of work goes into it, especially trying to run two cars like we are tonight,” said Strand after his win. Dustin started his Late Model night with a heat race win, lining him up eighth on the starting grid for the 20-car, 20-lap feature. He fell back a spot after the completion of the first lap, but quickly began moving his way forward. By lap 10 he had methodically worked his No. 71 machine into the fourth spot. He took advantage of the leaders hitting lapped traffic and moved himself up to second. Strand is now 14 points behind Brad Seng in River Cities Speedway Late Model track points. On Saturday, the team unloaded the Millenium SRT Modified at Greenbush Race Park and picked up the heat race win after starting fourth. Strand lined up seventh in the 10-car feature, but was only able to advance to the sixth spot. Next week, Strand will be gunning for back-to-back wins at the Bullring as the Modifieds return this Friday. On Saturday, he will look to extend his 56-point lead atop the NLRA standings as the Late Models return to Greenbush Race Park. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 5, 2020) - Going into the triple-header NLRA weekend, the No. 71 machine had a 10-point deficit on NLRA points leader, Brad Seng, but by weekend’s end, he would have a healthy points lead.
It had been nearly three years since the NLRA Late Models had visited Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn, and even longer since Strand had been in victory lane with his Late Model at the speedway – 2012. By night’s end, not only would Strand change that, but he would have the NLRA points tie with Brad Seng.
Strand won his heat and lined up fourth for the 22-car, 25-lap feature. Don Shaw and Ryan Mikkelson led the field to green and it didn’t take long for Strand to make his way to the lead. After an early caution, the field reassembled and Strand snuck under Ryan Corbett and Casey Meyer for third. Strand then began stalking Mikkelson for second and gained the spot three laps into the main event. Another caution lined Strand up on the bumper of Shaw. The two battled side-by-side into turn one on lap five, but Shaw retained the lead on the line. Strand was able to get his car to stick on the low side and rocketed out of turn two, giving him the advantage at the line. Shaw challenged Strand on the high side in turns three and four, but on the following circuit Strand found grip out of turn two and cleared for the lead. Though there were a few more restarts and lapped traffic, Strand dominated the feature to pick up his 22nd career NLRA feature win. Friday night the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating / Millenium SRT team unloaded at their home track of River Cities Speedway. Going into the NLRA Late Model Feature, Brad Seng and Dustin Strand were tied for the point lead for NLRA, and Strand had a seven-point advantage in track points over Seng. With three feature wins in a row, a bounty was put on Strand, giving an added bonus to whoever could beat him. A full field of NLRA Late Models were on the grid for the 25-lap main event. After a fifth-place run in his heat, Strand started 14th. With the leaders battling, Strand quietly made a run to finish the feature in fifth. Strand trails Seng in RCS track points by 9 points, and would be behind Seng in NLRA points, until the following day. The Strand Racing team unloaded at Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday for the Throwdown at the Devils Playground with 26 NLRA Late Models checked in. After making a run from fourth to second in his heat race, Strand started fourth again for the feature. The feature was brought to green by Shaw and Casey Meyer, but Strand quickly worked his way into the second position. However, Brody Troftgruben was unstoppable that night, and moved from 10th to take the feature win. Strand went on to finish second and now leads the NLRA points over Troftgruben by 56 points. Strand will do double duty this Friday at the Bullring as they bring the WISSOTA Modifieds to the track along with their Premier Racing Series. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 28, 2020) – It was a two-win weekend for Dustin Strand this past weekend as Strand collected wins in both the Late Model and Modified.
The action began on Friday night at River Cities Speedway with the NLRA Late Models for the Bemidji Marine / Carr’s Grain Service No. 71 team.
After picking up a heat race win, Strand started on the pole for the 20-lap feature. Strand took the lead on lap one, but his race was far from over. Four-time and defending NLRA series champion, Brad Seng, was hot on his heels in the early going, but Strand was able to extend his advantage when he encountered lapped traffic at the halfway point. With Seng getting held up in traffic, that allowed Strand to pull away to a big lead. In the closing laps, Seng began to find his groove and became a contender again with five to go. Seng got to within three car lengths of Strand with three to go, but again, Seng was held up in traffic, which ultimately sealed the win for Strand. “It helps to start up front for sure, but when you’ve got the 12S car breathing down your neck, it gets a little hectic. But it worked out really well,” said Strand of his battle with Seng after the race in victory lane. “Going through lapped cars, it got a little tight a few times. The track was pretty technical. There was a lot of traction in spots, but if you just missed it, you got hung out. I just have to thank everybody that makes this thing rock and roll. Nate, Timmy and my dad in the pits, they work their tails off.” Strand’s win was his third of the season at River Cities and extended his points lead to seven over Seng in the track standings. On Saturday night, Strand took his WISSOTA Modified out to Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, Minn. After a charge from eighth to second in his heat, Strand rolled out fifth on the grid for the 20-lap feature. Strand wasted no time working his way to the front. The driver of the Millenium SRT machine took the point on lap three and never looked back. Strand cruised to the win to score his third Modified win of the season. This weekend, a big three-race swing with the NLRA Late Models is on tap. First up, is Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. on Thursday night, followed by a visit to River Cities Speedway on Friday. The weekend wraps up with a stop at Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D. on Saturday. Strand has one NLRA win at Norman County, which came in 2012. He has scored four career NLRA wins at Devils Lake and also won a WISSOTA Late Model special there earlier this season. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 22, 2020) – Last week was a busy one for Strand Racing as both the Millenium SRT Modified and Late Model made laps on the same weekend for the first time this season.
It began on Thursday night at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, as Dustin Strand made his return to the speedway with the WISSOTA Modifieds returning to the high-speed three-eighths mile speedplant for the first time since 2014.
Strand made short work of a successful return, winning the opening heat race of the evening. In the feature, Strand led the first seven circuits, taking the point from polesitter Joseph Thomas on the opening circuit. Dan Ebert made the pass for the lead on the eighth lap, with Strand still running a close second. Dustin chose the bottom on a double-file restart around the halfway point, and held off Thomas, while staying within striking distance of Ebert. Strand crossed the line at the end of the race with a second-place run. "It felt really good," Strand said about the opportunity to return to Norman County. "I always enjoyed racing there, and it was a lot of fun. [The car] was pretty good. I maybe got a little too relaxed when we got out front there. Dan was really good. He could kind of run all over. All in all we had a pretty good car. It was a solid run." On Sunday night, Strand brought the Late Model out to the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks to put it to the test against the best of the best with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. It was five years ago when Strand nearly upset the Outlaws, leading laps 15 through 17, in a bid that fell short due to a flat tire. Strand started off Sunday night with the 17th best qualifying lap, and a fifth-place run in his heat race. Slated 14th to start the 50-lap main event, Strand wasted no time moving forward, as he was already up to 10th at the conclusion of the fifth circuit. Strand remained 10th for the next 25 circuits, before his next series of passes. Strand passed Mitch McGrath on lap 30, then veteran Scott Bloomquist two laps later. Outlaw regular Ashton Winger was the next to fall on lap 37, with Chase Junghans becoming the next victim on lap 41. With the white flag flying, Strand made one last charge at 10-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion Donny Schatz. Strand made that final pass before the pair made it back to the checkered flag, scoring a top-five with the Outlaws, and winning Hard Charger award honors. "That's definitely near the top of the list." Strand said post-race on where that run ranks among his best career finishes. "We were running side-by-side with Bloomquist for quite a few laps, and that was pretty awesome just in itself because he's been one of the top dogs forever. We got rolling there, finding a pretty good groove on the bottom, and a lot of the guys were having trouble staying down there, so I had clear sailing, picking my way through there. "I didn't even have any idea what place we were in," Strand said of the long green flag run at the end of the race, "because we were going through lapped cars, and alongside other cars. Then all of a sudden I see Schatz and [Ricky] Weiss in the next corner in front of me, and I knew we were getting a little closer to the front, so I was pretty excited at that point. It was a lot of fun, that's for sure." EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 16, 2020) – Dustin Strand makes a return to one of his old stomping grounds tonight as Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. host the WISSOTA Modifieds for the first time since 2014.
No stranger to the high-banked three-eighths mile oval, Strand is one of the winningest drivers in the history of Norman County. Strand has amassed 45 career wins across four different divisions at the speedway, led by 22 victories in the Midwest Modifieds. He also has collected 11 Modified feature wins, along with a win each in the Super Stock and with the NLRA Late Models.
Coming off a two-win weekend that stretched his win streak to three, Strand is looking to keep the momentum rolling and pick up his fourth consecutive checkered flag. On Friday night, Strand will head back to his home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks as the Bullring hosts the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models. Strand is the most recent Late Model winner at River Cities as he picked up his second consecutive win at the track last Friday night. After starting sixth on the grid, Strand took advantage of an early race restart to move from fifth to second. From there, he chased down and passed Brody Troftgruben for the lead around the halfway point. Once out front, Strand checked out and cruised to the win. “This thing was really bad on the top,” said Strand of how well his car worked on the high side of the speedway. “I was kind of pinned on the bottom at the beginning and worked my way forward. Under that yellow, I checked the top and thought ‘yep, it’ll work tonight’. That was a heck of a fun race. This car has been bad fast.” On Saturday night, Strand returned to victory lane at Greenbush Race Park after a dominating performance during the WISSOTA Modified feature. Strand started on the outside of the front row and led all 20 trips around the high-banked three-tenths mile oval en route to his second Modified win of 2020. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 7, 2020) – Dustin Strand returned to his home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, on Friday night and claimed his second Late Model win of the season. The win came in thrilling fashion as Strand led just the final two laps.
A strong run from fourth to first in his heat race put Strand on the outside of row three for the 20-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature.
Strand powered his way into the second spot on the opening lap, using the extreme high side of the speedway. From there, he set his sights on Brandon Fuller for the lead. Fuller ran a fast pace but Strand was able to stay within about three car lengths of the No. F9 until the final caution came out with four laps to go. On the ensuing restart, Strand again went to the top side of the speedway and pulled even with Fuller. The lead duo ran door-to-door for the next two laps before Strand was able to clear for the lead coming to the white flag. Fuller made one last charge at Strand on the final lap, but Strand was able to hang on for the win – his first at River Cities this season. “It was fun to finally be able to rip the top here again. I feel right at home up there,” said Strand in victory lane. “In turns one and two I was maybe a little bit better than Fuller on the top if I hit it just right. Turns three and four were really tricky. That was a heck of a race.” Saturday’s NLRA event scheduled for Greenbush Race Park was canceled due to rain. Strand will return to River Cities Speedway this Friday night to compete with the WISSOTA Late Models. On Saturday, he will be heading to Greenbush Race Park with his WISSOTA Modified. Strand hasn’t raced his Modified since May 17th at Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D., where he scored a third-place finish. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 1, 2020) – Dustin Strand was back in action this past weekend with a pair of Late Model shows on tap.
The weekend began with a top 10 finish in the feature on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. From there, Strand headed back west to the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND, where he ended the night in victory lane just two weeks prior. Strand started third in his heat race, as the NLRA finally lifted the lid on their season after losing four events to the COVID-19 pandemic, for the Walhalla Building Center Golden Hammer Classic. Strand made it past Dustin Bluhm and Troy Schill to score the heat win. Strand then redrew the outside pole for the evening’s main event. Strand, a three-time NLRA series champion, took the lead at the start and led the first three circuits before Brad Seng took the lead on lap four. Strand stayed within striking distance for the next four rounds before taking the point back on lap eight. A caution on lap nine restacked the field for a restart, where Strand continued to lead until Seng moved back by on the 10th circuit. Strand was unable to retake the lead after the event's final caution a few laps later, scoring a runner-up finish at the Devils Lake oval. This weekend, Strand will head back to the Bullring on Friday night, followed by his first trip of the season to Greenbush Race Park with the NLRA Late Models. Racing begins at 7:00pm both Friday and Saturday. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 23, 2020) – Dustin Strand’s hot start to the season continued last Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Strand charged to a third-place finish from the seventh starting position to extend his streak of Late Model podium finishes to four to start his season.
“It was a pretty good run for us. We were hoping for a couple more laps or a yellow maybe, but it was good,” said Strand of the Late Model feature that went 20 laps caution-free. “We were coming pretty hard there at the end and it would have been nice to stack them up and give it a shot on a restart.”
After two races, Strand currently sits second in the River Cities Speedway Late Model track points, nine markers behind Brad Seng. This weekend, Strand will return to River Cities Speedway on Friday, before heading back to Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday for the NLRA season opener. Saturday’s event, billed as the Golden Hammer Classic, boasts a big $2,000 payday to the winner of the NLRA feature. On June 13th, Devils Lake hosted the WISSOTA Late Models for the first time this season and Strand came away with the victory – leading 22 of the 25 laps. “We had the car dialed in there pretty good last Saturday at Devils Lake so hopefully we can carry some momentum,” said Strand. EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 17, 2020) – It took just three races for Dustin Strand to park his No. 71 Late Model in victory lane for the first time in 2020. Strand picked up the win at Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night over a tough field of competitors on hand.
“It always feels great to win. We enjoy racing at Devils Lake because we have a lot of family and friends over that way so that always makes it a little more special,” Strand said. “That first win is always nice to get out of the way.”
After putting on an impressive drive from seventh to second in his heat, Strand redrew the number three pill for the feature to put him on the inside of row two. Strand quickly jumped into the second spot as the green flag waved on the 25-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature. Strand rode in the second position behind Brandon Fuller, before making the pass for the lead on lap three. Once out front, Strand never looked back as he led the final 22 circuits around the high-banked one-third mile. “It was surprisingly a really good field of cars,” said Strand of the 20 cars in attendance. “There really hasn’t been much for racing, but they had a heck of a nice racing surface for us on Saturday.” Strand picked up the win by 1.649 seconds over 18th-place starter, Kevin Robertson. On Friday night, Strand was at his home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Again, Strand raced from seventh to second in his heat. He rolled off from the eighth starting position for the feature. Strand slowly worked his way up the running order throughout the 20-lap main event. At the halfway point, Strand cracked the top five, but wasn’t done there. He picked off two more positions in the closing laps to round out the podium with a third-place finish. “We’re still kind of trying to master how to race the track. It’s been the same for a lot of years, but we’ve had a little bit of change to the surface and the top lane really isn’t there like it used to be. It’s become more of a middle to bottom groove track,” Strand said. “We’ve been having to adapt to that. I think, mostly, it’s me having to change my driving style. I think we are making some gains and hopefully, we’ll find some more speed.” This weekend, Strand will be back at River Cities with the WISSOTA Late Models on Friday night. The green flag drops at 7pm. Dustin and the entire Strand Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support! EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 12, 2020) – For the first time this season, Dustin Strand has a WISSOTA Late Model doubleheader on tap. The action begins tonight at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., followed by a visit to Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D.
In four visits to Devils Lake Speedway last season, Strand came away with three podium finishes, including a win.
“I enjoy racing at Devils Lake. We’ve got a lot of family and friends over that way, so that makes it a little more fun to race over there,” said Strand. Last Friday night, River Cities Speedway hosted the Late Models for the first time this season. Strand, who led the Late Models with four wins at the Bullring in 2019, was looking to start the year off strong at his home track. The night began with a strong charge from sixth to second in his heat, which put the driver of the Ben Adams powered No. 71 in the fourth starting position for the main event. “It felt good to be back at the track. It’s been a long time coming,” said Strand. “We had a yellow part way through the feature and after that yellow, I was putting a little bit of heat on Corbett for the lead. I thought we maybe had something for him but he was doing a pretty good job and he got away from us at the end. We’ll just try to get the car a little better for tonight.” Strand crossed the checkers in the second spot. “I left the car pretty neutral. The track conditions we had last Friday were really not normal Grand Forks track conditions – it was pretty dry and dominant in the middle and bottom grooves,” he said. “When they dug the track before the sprint car feature I thought that the moisture might come back out, but it never did. I maybe just misjudged what we had for moisture in the track.” He currently sits second in the River Cities Speedway Late Model point standings, five markers behind Corbett. Racing at River Cities Speedway begins with hot laps at 6:30 and heat races at 7:00pm. Dustin and the entire Strand Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support! Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT, won the second and final appearance for the NLRA of the 2019 season at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN. The win is Strand's third of the season with the series, which ties him with Donny Schatz for most victories on tour this season. The win is also Strand's twenty-first NLRA win, which is fifth on the all-time list.
Strand had the pole at the start, as fellow heat winner Bill Mooney lined the No. 2 Lithia Toyota of Grand Forks MasterSbilt by JMR to the outside of the front row.
Strand took the lead at the drop of the green as Shane Edginton moved the No. 4 Performance Auto victory in on Mooney for second. On the second circuit, Edginton made the pass on Mooney for the runner up spot as Strand set a blistering pace up front. In the remaining laps of the first half of the race, the best battle on the track was for the fourth through seventh spots, as July Greenbush winner Joey Pederson, who didn't have the best of starts in the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors Victory, started sixth, and had slid back to seventh. He mounted a comeback, however, as he joined that four car battle which included Mike Balcaen, and his No. 10 Mission Transport Black Diamond, Brody Troftgruben, and his No. 14 Applegren Construction Rocket, and Tom Corcoran, and his No. T1 Greg's Lawn Care MB Custom. Corcoran was the first to climb to fourth, moving past Troftgruben for the spot. But it was Pederson, who was still seventh on lap five, that climbed all the way to fourth two laps later. Balcaen fired the last shot in that battle as he moved past Corcoran to move back into the top five on lap nine. Back up front, Strand continued to lead Edginton, as the pair pulled away from the rest of the field after each driver had set what would be their best laps of the race on the fifth round. Pederson continued his charge, as he made one last pass on Bill Mooney to move into third just before the half way point. Strand and Edginton remained one two as they worked traffic in the latter stages of the race, as Strand came past the flag stand, taking the checkered over a second ahead of Edginton. Strand lapped up to eighth in the green-white-checkered affair, that lasted just over six minutes. Edginton was second, with Pederson third, Mooney fourth, and Mike Balcaen rounding out the top five. Brad Seng finished sixth in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, with Tom Corcoran seventh, and Ryan Corbett eighth in the No. C4 Corbett Trucking MasterSbilt. Matt Smith in the No. 86 Polar Industries Capital, and Brody Troftgruben rounded out the top ten. Strand and Mooney were the heat winners, while Pederson won the Performance Auto hard charger award, improving from sixth to collect the final spot on the podium. 15 cars were in attendance in Greenbush. Strand's win puts him right back in the title picture, as he will head into the final three races just twenty points back of point leader Shane Edginton, and twelve markers behind Brad Seng, who is currently second in the standings. Mike Balcaen is fourth, while Brody Troftgruben rounds out the top five. Jesse Teunis is sixth with the No. 70 Grand Prix Amusements MasterSbilt, with Ryan Kereluk seventh with the No. 29K Edison Electrical Services Victory, and Ryan Corbett eighth. Tom Corcoran and Cole Babcock, driver of the No. 2* Casselton Lumber Pierce, round out the current top ten. NLRA series action continues on Saturday night, August the 31st, and Sunday night, September the 1st, at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN, for the traditional Labor Day double header. Dustin Strand parked the No. 71 Walhalla Builders Millenium SRT in victory lane last Saturday night at the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND. Strand's win is his second of the season with the club, his fourth at Devils Lake, and twentieth series win, as he becomes just the fifth racer all-time to win twenty features in series history.
Brad Seng and Jesse Teunis led the field to the green at the start, with Seng taking the lead early in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom.
Edginton moved the No. 4 Performance Auto victory past Teunis' No. 70 Grand Prix Amusements MasterSbilt, while Strand and Teunis resumed their battle from their heat race. Five laps in, Cole Schill had moved the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MB Custom past Teunis for fourth, as Edginton stalked Seng for the lead. Seven laps in, Teunis slowed on the inside of turn two and Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lithia Toyota of Grand Forks MasterSbilt by JMR, made significant contact with Teunis' car. Teunis' night was over, while Mooney completed a tire change, and returned to the race. On the ensuing restart, Strand got the best start, as he moved from third to first, using the cushion to advance past Edginton and Seng to take the lead. At the halfway point, Strand had built a healthy advantage, while Seng and Edginton battled for second, and Schill and Ryan Kereluk, and his No. 29K Avonlea Group Victory, went door-to-door for fourth. Edginton took second, while Schill moved in on Seng for third. One final caution with eight laps remaining bunched up the field one final time, but Strand resumed the race with the lead. Schill and Travis Robertson, driver of the No. 1R Tires Plus MasterSbilt, used the bottom of the track on the restart to move up to third and fifth respectively. In the waning laps, Edginton reeled in Strand, and closed to Strand's spoiler, but it was Strand who was able to hold on for the victory. Cole Schill was third, with Travis Robertson making one last pass on Brad Seng to score the fourth spot, while Seng rounded out the top five. Ryan Kereluk was sixth, with Brody Troftgruben seventh in the No. 14 Gateway Auto Tech Rocket, and Steffen Snare eighth in the No. 71S Sportsman's Lodge Bloomquist. Kevin Robertson was ninth in the MLGC No. 10R, with Bill Mooney rebounding from the incident with Teunis to round out the top ten. Strand on the restart that got him the lead, "At the beginning of the race, Shane and Brad were both kinda getting away from me, I was kinda struggling a little bit, I thought maybe I made the wrong decisions before the feature. But we had a bunch of caution laps, and I was packing in the top, cause it was pretty marble-y up there, and I figured that was my only prayer, and I was gonna be a hero or zero on that restart. We had an awesome start, it stuck on the top, and it worked." Jesse Teunis and Brad Seng were the heat winners. 16 cars were in attendance on Saturday at Devils Lake. NLRA action continues on Thursday night, August the 15th, when the series returns to the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, for the first time in two years. NLRA series report. |

Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT, won his first NLRA feature of the season Sunday evening at the River Cities Speedway during the waning hours of the Greater Grand Forks Fair. The win is Strand's 19th with the series, as the three-time and defending series champion is now one win away from becoming the fifth member of the series twenty win club.
Strand and Mike Balcaen, and his No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, shared the front row at the start of the race.
Strand used his outside starting position to his advantage, as he sailed around the cushion of the Bullring to lead at the drop of the green. Two circuits were completed before the events first caution for Nick Minske, as he spun the Viking Track Services No. 1M off turn one. This was a sign of things to come as the race was plaged with caution periods, a rarety in recent history, as there had not been a caution at River Cities in a late model feature since May 31st. On each restart in the first half of the 25 lap affair, fourth place starting, and current series point leader, Shane Edginton, was able to show Strand the nose of his No. 4 Performance Auto victory. Strand, however, would pull away down the backstretch, and into turns three and four. Some early casualties during the first half of the race included a returning Steffen Snare, as his No. 71S Sportsman's Lodge Bloomquist made heavy contact with the front stretch wall. Rookie Blake Anderson's night ended after contact in turn three damaged the nose of the No. 9 Spicer Trucking MB Custom. Dan Dowling looked to have a mechanical failure in his No. 2D Knickerbocker Liquor Locker GRT, as he was making his first start with the club since 2012. After Dowling's exit, Balcaen, Cole Schill, and Brad Seng diced back and forth for the final spot on the podium, as they went three wide on several occasions during the mid point of the race. The event's sixth caution eventually turned into a red due to a pileup in turns one and two that blocked the track. Brandon Fuller's Brokern Drum No. F9, Troy Schill's No. 11 Todd's Electric Black Diamond, Shane Holden's No. 11JR JMS Motorsports Rocket, and Jesse Teunis's No. 70 Houde's Excavating MasterSbilt, all came away with a decent amount of damage, while Bryce Reimer in his No. 345, and Jeff Hapala in his No. 16S City Parcel Delivery MasterSbilt, were able to avoid inclusion in the wreck by driving over the banking. All but Teunis were able to continue the race. After the clean up was completed, the longest green flag period of the race commenced, as Strand and Edginton remained one and two, while Seng, Cole Schill, and Mike Balcaen continued to battle for third. As Strand began to see the back of the field, one final caution saved him from having to work traffic, as he lead the final four laps to secure the victory. After the race Strand said, "I knew Shane [Edginton,] Brad [Seng,] and [Mike] Balcaen were right behind me there, and I didn't want to see all those yellows. We got to about five to go, and I was kinda hoping we were gonna finish the deal off, but, then we caught lapped cars with three to go, then I was thinking, yeah, we might need a yellow, so I was kinda thankful for that one." About his restarts, Strand said, "The track was kinda tricky, it was really hard and slippery in places, and then there was a lot of traction in other places, so if you missed it just a little bit, you'd really lose a lot of speed, but if you hit it just right, you could really carry your momentum. I had my car maybe just a tick snug in the center, so if I missed it, it was shoving the nose a little, but, all in all, it was a good night." Strand was followed by Shane Edginton in second, while Brad Seng got the best of the battle with Mike Balcaen and Cole Schill, as he crossed the line in third in the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom. Cole Schill was fourth in the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MB Custom, with Balcaen rounding out the top five. Tom Corcoran was sixth in the No. T1 Greg's Lawn Care MB Custom, with Brody Troftgruben seventh in the No. 14 K&E Construction Rocket, and Ryan Kereluk eight in the No. 29K Dirty Bodies by RJK Victory. Rookie Cole Babcock came home ninth in the No. 2* Casselton Lumber Pierce, while also taking home hard charger honors after starting 16th in just his fourth race with the series. Troy Schill battled back from the pileup to round out the top ten. NLRA series report. |
